1. Introduction: S LeMay here again. Today I'm going to talk to you about how to correct color and photo shop. Sometimes the white balance and your images right on and other times it's a mile off. But don't worry, it happens to all of us, and it's easy to fix. And Photoshopped, before we dig entered it. This tutorial Let me first say that it's always best to try to get the white bounce correct in camera. This results in less post processing time, and it gives your images a head start in the event that you need to make some white balance adjustments. And in prose passes Today, virtually all cameras have white balance settings. If you're shooting outside on a sunny day, you would put your camera on white balance setting to son. If you're shooting out duos on a cloudy day, you would set your digital camera's white balance setting to cloudy etcetera. A lot of the higher end cameras also allow you to manually said custom white balance values . To take advantage of this option, you could use one of several devices, such as a simple, great card, an ex Expo disk or ex right photos color check of passport. Now this tutorial is for those special times when you either forgot to set the white bounds setting on your camera and or you forgot Teoh. Pack your color checker passport where other white balance to in your camera bag before you left the shoe. Like I said earlier, don't be hard on yourself. It happens to all of us in the next video to fix the white bounce, and Photoshopped will be locating and setting the black point White point and great point in an image. Each of the color point settings will reside in their own curves adjustment layer, so you'll be able to adjust Theo Pacey of each individual layer separately for additional tweaking, so we'll see you in the next video. 2. Color Correcting In Photoshop: Hi, everyone welcome again to color correcting in photo shop, as I said before, to fix the white balance in for a shot will be locating and setting the Black point, White Point and Grey Point in an image. Each of the color point settings will reside in their own curves adjustment layer, so you'll be able to adjust the opacity of each individual layers separately for additional tweaking. All right, As you can see, I have an image that has somewhat of a great cash. The color is often this image that we're gonna see what we can do with it. All right, So the first thing you want to dio is on your layer pallet good down to the bottom to the adjustment layers section and scroll down to threshold. And, uh, you're going to see an image that's completely black and white. Now on the hissed a grand. There's a slighter that's smack in the middle. You want to slide that all the way to the left until everything is white and then slowly slighted to the right until you see some solid blacks. Now some people think that Bice sliding it slightly to the right until they see little spots, and then they select this little spot. It's not a good idea. Those little spots usually don't have enough information for a good selection. So you want to slight until you see some solid blacks. And I'd say right about there is good. If you want to zoom up to make a *** selection your conduce, that next thing you want to do is go to your where your eye dropper tool is left click and make sure that you're on color sampler, too. Once you've done that, you make a selection, and this is good. I'm going to select this little section right here. All right. Once you've made your selection, you want to slide your threshold layer into the trash our next. The thing you want to do is go into your adjustment palette again and select curves. Now, you can do this with with levels as well. All right, Now you'll see three eye droppers. The one of the top is for blacks, the one in the centers for great points. And the one on the bottom is for white points. We're doing blacks, so we're gonna slept top one, and we're going to click that I drop a right smack in the middle of our selection That takes care of the blacks. Okay, if you want to zoom back down again, you can't. So now we're gonna make a white point selection. I'm gonna do the same thing. We down to the adjustments, select threshold. And this time we're going to move the slider all the way to the right until everything is black. And again, If you see little white spots, ignore them because that's usually a washout. There's no information on these. And then slowly slide your slider to the left until you see some solid whites come up. Yeah, right there in the middle. We have some nice ones. So, men, if you like, it's up to you. Select your make sure again that you're in color. Sample a tool and make your selection. Once you've made your selection, throw your threshold layer in the trash, okay? And again go into your adjustments curves. This time we're going to select the white point. I drop her, which is on the bottom, and click right dead center into our selection. Okay, we'll zoom down. Take a good look at it. and you can see it's made a drastic change. Already. There's your white points and there's your black points. Now for the great point, we have to add two more steps to our selection. So the first thing you want to do is go down to the bottom of your palate layer and select create new layer. Click on that, then go to edit. Scroll down to fill and make sure your content is on 50% gray. Click OK, everything will turn grey. Go to your blending in the layers palette and select difference. I know. Don't panic. I know it looks like a negative. That's fine Again. Go to your adjustments and select threshold. All right, this time again, slide your slider to the left like you did with the blacks until everything's white and slowly to the right until you start seeing some gray sections. Okay, it's a little too much, I'd say right about there. Okay. And if you want to zoom in, you can, which I'm going to do, and I'm going to select this area from my gray section. So now make sure that eyedropper, because it will change of times left, click and make sure you have color sampler, too. In clicking and area, I'd say right about there. Be fine. That's gonna be our selection. Now, this time you're gonna have to trash two layers the threshold layer and the gray layer. All right, Once you've done that, go into your adjustments curves. And this time we're going to select the middle. I drop her, which is the great point, eyedropper. And click that dead center into your selection. Okay? Yeah, Zone down until we have a full screen. And there you are. If you want to see if you want Teoh, compare before and after. All you need do is hold your option key or else l'd key if you have a PC and click on the I in the layer. And this is before this is after, all right, a big difference. You don't realize just how much of a difference it's gonna be until you're finished. And, um, all you need to do now is flattened the layers and you get your color corrected. Did image or you can tweak it a little bit Before you do that. That's up to you. That's how you color. Correct? In photo shop using curves or levels. Now, if you, uh if you want a list of what we went through, uh, go to my notes section and I have everything written down for you. Okay. See you in the next video from. 3. In Conclusion: Okay, everyone, In conclusion, I want to say several things. Number one, um, Learn to get your exposures right. Shoot wrong and custom White balance in camera. If you're serious about your photography, you want to learn to do those things. Custom. White balancing is not difficult to do. There are different products on the market you can use such as, Ah, great card, which is very inexpensive. You can get that in any shop that sells cameras, or you can order one online. There is a to call the target calibrate ER, which works in the same way. It's a little more expensive. Ah, expo disk or my favorite, too. This is if you're really serious about color in your images, getting the color right, and that would be the, uh, color checker passport. It's a tool you can purchase online color checker passport. Not only can you use it to custom white balance, but you can also use it to color profile each and every camera. You have all cameras for the graft differently, but this will make all your cameras consistent. The only difference is with the color checker passport. You need to have to use either light room or a job camera. Raw software is compatible with those two. Software is only so there you are. I hope you learned a few things today, and I hope you practice this color correction in photo shop. It's fun. It's easy. And, um, hope to see you in our other tutorials. Thank you very much. 4. Image Project: Okay, now that you learn how to color, correct in photo shop, using curves or levels. Ah, what I'd like you to do is to go out and photograph something. Make sure there's blacks, whites and grays in the image. And, um, shoot for a normal exposure with your settings off balance. In other words, if you're shooting a cloudy sky day, put it on, Sonny. If you're shooting a sunny day, put it on cloudy or put it on indoors. What have you conduce? Teoh? Get an off color balance once you've done that and preferably ah, if your camera allows you to do, is to shoot wrong rather than JP. If not, that's OK. Load your image into Photoshopped years three year technique that you just learned and then upload a before and after image so everybody can see the improvement. Thank you and we'll talk to you again. But
