Welcome to the "Cinematic Film Music Compositions for Beginners through DAW" Class! :)

This course will help you to create your first orchestral composition using DAW and Virtual Orchestral Library. The following classes are great for those who want to start composing for an orchestra, wether it's for movie (cinematic) or just for the sake of music! We are going to use the modern technology music production software that'll help us make an amazing musical piece of art that will touch people's hearts!

We will cover such things as orchestration, composition, and structure of the cinematic track! We are going to learn about orchestral instruments (sections of the instruments), such as: strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, tuned percussion, etc. Including: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Piccolo, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani, Bells, and many more!..

1. Introduction: Hi everyone, My name is Daniel and welcome to my orchestral music production video course. And this class, we're going to be creating a hole or kestrel cinematic music like this. Well listen. That was pretty cool, wasn't it? So now let's focus on those things that he actually need to know and have before watching other lectures in this class. So the first thing as understanding the nose. So while Jamie by saying understanding the notes, so first of all, you need to know how to cave in notes on the keyboard. I came to know that this is C, this is D, this is E, F, G, a, B, it out. So that's perfect. If you do notice, if you don't go ahead and check out my other courses. And there is a very good music theory class that actually teaches you how to understand how to whom now the nodes and how to Akkad M on the keyboard, you know? So the second thing you need to have is any DAW on your computer, DAW, it might be F0 studio as a half or Ableton Live, or maybe GarageBand or whatever you like, whatever you have and whatever you enjoy to use. Third thing is any orchestral library. I have personally used BBC Symphony Orchestra in. There is couple of versions. The smallest one you can actually get for free if you pass this survey, I'm going to explain that in more detail in the next class. But if you already have a neither library, that's absolutely fine. As soon as it has strings, wouldn't ran some brass percussion best, absolutely perfect our array. So the fourth thing is actually, is actually very optional. This is the knowledge of keys like C major, a minor, B flat major, D major, and B minor, and other stuff like this. If you didn't know this, that's fine. But if you do know that as just birthdate, you are awesome. Well, you're awesome anyways. But if you're doing this, you're awesome to Weiss in RA, that's it for this class. And now is jump right in to the music. 2. [optional] ORCHESTRAL LIBRARY: Hi everyone. My name is Danielle and thank you so much for continuing to learn with me are. So today I'm going to show you how to get this amazing Spitfire audio BBC orchestra library. All right, so if you have it already, you can skip this class. If you don't, then please watch this gives this virtual orchestra library is amazing and there's a chance to get it for free. All right, so how to find this orchestra library? It's actually very easy. Go ahead, open your browser and Terrapin, something like Spitfire audio you can see right here. And BBC Symphony Orchestra is going to pop up super quickly on the first, on the first pages you'll find it immediately are at. So then you'd go down in, you see this beautiful instruments, then you see all those stuff. And now it actually ask us to buy something. So there is a first version called Discover, and then we have or and professional and there is some other information. All right, let's scroll up a little bit and returned to the discovered option. So it actually costs for a 29 box or free. Whoa, that's really interesting. So we can either spend for it in a mux or get it for free. Of course money, get it for free. Let's click climate. And now it redirects us to this amazing page which has these letters discovered. This VDS color version. We scroll down and we can hear the audio sample, we can see the video, we can read the text. And on the left side there is a button Add to Cart. So they asked us to spend 49 bucks. And there is oil era gray button that says for free or, or free. I'm sorry, sound. And they just basically added this huge I add to cart button. And there is this small or free button. And you guys should click on it and then you'll create an account, give them an email, and start passing the survey. The survey is very easy. They're going to ask you like, what kind of music do you prefer? Wanted to create? What kind of docx do use or something? Or what is her background whenever there is a 20 questions and all of them are easy. The only thing any to ask you to do, guys, please answered my realistically, don't answer with random combination of letters and numbers on the question. For example, Lake, what kind of music do prefer to listen to? Police? He answered with full sentences and please make sure that those sentences make Sam Yeah. So I like to listen to their bla, bla, bla, bla bla and done type hints, some random staff. Okay, so that'll be kind of easy for you, but there is a little issue is that when you pass the survey, they're going to give you this version only in 14 days or maybe EBIT class, but something like approximately two weeks, you know. AFTER LIBRARY BEFORE MELODY SKETCH: Hi everybody, My name is Daniel, and today we're going to start setting an orchestra. So go ahead and open up your dark. They'll be the part of your project. All right, So basically we need to start from just adding the instruments to our simpler. If you have any other dA dW or if you have a neither or gastro every that's totally fine. I'm just going to show the whole process. The most important thing in this class is that what kind of instruments we're going to pick. So I already created this small template. We're actually be adding a bit more of the instruments. Because as you can see that this kind of a small orchestra. So you have just two violins, viola, cello, cello, or a oboe, clarinet, and staff. But we do need to have more. We don't have have a percussion here, so we gotta fix it. Okay, so today we'll just focus on instrumentation and you do, and you do need to do the same thing. So now don't compose anything, don't start bread duction. Just create this little template and add everything you need for work and every single instrument. And let's do that together because I'm going to be explaining a lot of important stuff. And right now we're going to start from a quick review. All right, so the first of all, you need to have two violins. By the way, you can. You can connect them just like one violin and you can just write a couple notes on the one single assembler. But actually our recommended to separate these two violence and that will make everything much easier. All right, so you will save your time. You'll be able to see everything more clear. Because sometimes when you see just two instruments in one single file like this, everything is actually mixing up together and it's difficult to switch with the layers. You don't understand anything like, Hey, I went to do a second violin here. And then you see the case when in one single file. And the second issue with having two violins in one single sampler is that it started going to help you with, with my gosh, with and the second issue that we are going to have, it will add two violins in one single file leg. There's, who'll just right for it to violence just here without switching from Violin 1 to Berlin to like, I'm doing great now, you know, you will have difficulties with making some kind of production stuff. So maybe in composition stage, that wouldn't be a big problem. But when you will start to, you know, make something louder, make something softer. Usually the second violin is a bit softer. The first one, and you wouldn't be able to put different effects and stuff. So there'll be Canada problem. So I just recommend you to put this same thing, violin twice. The first time. You're gonna do that for the first violins and the second term for the second vial lens, aright. So then we have a viola. So let me just open it up. And here we can see quite, quite simple interface. So you can just beg the instruments from this section of an orchestra. If you have a different or their celebrity, that's absolutely fine. Because, you know, I already said in the previous class that if it has strings, woodwinds, percussion, bras, then it's absolutely okay. So I picked a viola from, from here. So pick the violas and then they chose long. And I set everything up right here. Then we have a shallow. So they shallow. Looks like this as every now and then there is a second Sheila. And actually there was a little mistake with that because I actually wanted to then basis and a Santa and this as cellos. So now let's fix that error. And we just need to find it in this orcas short thing. So we see violins, two violins, YN, see viola's, and then cello. And then we can see basis. So we click on basis. We choose long, and there we go. And actually why it didn't change the name. You know, if you're a new user in your diet, especially NFO Studio. Let me just explain that actually I'm renaming it my myself, so it doesn't do that for me. So I need to do a right-click and then press Rename where it is that my gosh. Where is it? Replaced answered. Change color. Oh yeah, there we go. Rename. So we're re bases and click Save. So there, so there we go. We have basis. And then we have a horn, which is a bras instrument. Then we have, oh boy, which is a woodwind instrument. And we have clarinet, woodwind instrument, fluid woodwind instrument, bassoon, and woodwind instrument. Pick Hello, Women instrument, and then Trump ID. We choose a brass instrument. So basically Azure Command D to add a tube right here. So 10 or trombones and base term bones aren't very necessary here. But the two, but he's kinda important, especially if you're When do something strong with a lot of symphonic instruments. So let me add this orchestrate here one more time. There we go. So I'm going to pick tuba. Okay, and now let's rename it and say that it's tuba, rename to bar, safe birth x. So now we have two bar. And then of course we definitely need percussion. Percussion is extremely crucially important for our new track. So I'm going to drag and drop the UBC orchestra again to my simpler. Yeah, there we go. Oops, I'm sorry. Okay. So then we're going to pick salad with the percussion instruments. And unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of precaution things. Here we have harp and celebrity, and then we have just progression. And then we have 22 per question. So what's the difference between profession in tuned percussion? So just percussion instruments without the word tuned In the beginning, the don't really have a clear nodes. So for example, if you hear a tuned percussion instrument, you can clearly hear than the, makes him kind of notes, for example, exceed D, E, F, G, a, B. But in just percussion instruments, you don't really feel these nodes. You know, it's very difficult to understand what kind of know what it is. So I'm going to drag and drop again, right here to the sampler. There we go. Awesome. So there is tuned percussion. Here. We can actually select a lot of things. That would be bells, marimba, Zola phone and LeCun's pile and other things. So now let's stop on the xylophone because as I already mentioned today, we're going to focus on the most common insurance. So we're not going to do something super initio that we just a cinematic track with the common instruments. So now let's just big xylophone and actually want to add a Tim Flannery here because I think that'll be really fine. So let me just rename it and call it a xylophone. Rename the phone there, Ringo, My friends. And now one more instruments and very gonna be all set. Okay, percussion and tympani and Tim bunnies. So let's leave it like this. Or more believable. Sounds pretty cool. All right, reference that said with our setup, the only thing is that is remaining to do is that we need to assign each instrument to this specific number. So we basically just screw up and please don't assign the instruments to the same number if you didn't have it in your diary lags. But if you use FL Studio, just do the same thing is added in. There'll be a very useful for you guys. 4. First Sketch of the Melody: Hi everybody. So let's gets started. Now we're going to create a main melody. So basically we want add something at the beginning or at the end of the track, who basically we'll sketch a down main melody for the violin. And then in the next classes we're going to do everything else step-by-step. We're going to add the percussion. We're going to add the beginning and the end of this music. So first of all, let's rename our pattern two main melody and change up the color, save. Perfect. So today we won't write something really complex. We will start with something simple because, you know, it should be very easy for everyone so that we need to sketch something really simple. And for example, I start from the note B. Alright, let me make it a bit less sound because it's super loud. Yeah. Alright, now should be better. So I'm going to start from D. I then go to the a. So the rhythm wouldn't, wouldn't be very complex either. So we can create something really simple and at the same time, really pretty. You know, it should sound quite good. Now let's add F and listen to what we have. O, e is late. I must be here. Yeah, let's listen to that again. Yeah, that's much better. That's way better. Our eye sedan, we need to make this EBIT longer and then we're going to add something new. No, let me, let me think of it. Well, I think I notice I think I know what is it going to be next to? I don't know. Maybe he's kinda weird melody by really like it. It's a bit magic and kind of odd melody. And at the same time it's simple. And a little sad. Oops. There we go. Lemme lesson. Okay, so I see two fan of him mistakes here. So first of all, we need to make that E a B sugar. And then this D is kinda weird. I think. Ow, change that node. Just lemon. Think about that. So there is something magic and to do sad and really interesting in that melody. So I guess I'm going to leave it like that. So basically now go ahead and do the same thing. Please don't copy the melody. Lake when her ampersand, please create something your own. Please do something on your own. I really recommend you to create your own melody. It may be even simpler than mine, but please, ours really recommended to do something on your own. However, if you don't know much about the nose, if you don't have lake a very, very good knowledge about or no. So you can still copy the notes that I just created. But if you if you're a little more advanced than just someone who knows C, D, E, F, G, a, B. There'll be a great practice to create your own melody. So just go ahead and try. You don't lose anything even if you are not very confident with your note knowledge. All right, my friends. So now let me just add it to the main track, track number wine. So that is a main melody. Let me do a couple of copies right here. Yep. Okay. So I would personally recommend now to do a lot of copies, especially for this project. You know, you're tract might be very short, but it should have a bit more of diversity and it should be with a better quality. You know, I mean, so basically can do whatever you want. It's an art, but this is just my recommendation. And thanks so much for watching. Now let's work a bit more on arranging and others. 5. ARRANGING STRINGS: Hi everybody, My name is Jake and welcome sell. Today we're going to focus on arrangement, on making our melody a bit more beautiful. So I'm going to add either a string instruments, precautions and other instruments for a neither families. So that'll be percussion. Percussion, percussion, woodwinds and brass and media, other banks. So I'm not sure if we were going to do that in this single class. So maybe we're going to split it on a couple out of the process because this is kind of a difficult Dang and that, and that's super difficult, but it actually takes time and there's a lot of things to explain. So now let us get just started. So first of all, you need to go ahead and click right here on this thing when it says piano, violin 1. So basically just clicking right here, and then you must choose Violin 2. So here you need to decide why do you want to do for them second violin. So probably they can just double the melody, or we can do it a bit higher or a bit lower. Sages are, you went and just double the melody. And then the next glasses we're gonna do that beginning of the track and the enemy they can track. And then we're going to export all of this things. And just today we want to create any new melodic pictures is if I can say that. So I think we're going to do the beginning, the introduction, and the final. Now, so they track a bit later. So now it is just switched to the viola and to sound Valle ISD staff. Our race for the viola, we can change up and do it a bit. I changed it up a little bit. So I just want to start from the D, That's ray. And then so a, I think we can do it like this. Just on you've heard enough. And when it goes to that right here with unchanged up anything because it is going to be together. And when it goes to E, I would actually prefer to add a C now and then just make it a bit longer. So that's kinda of wind and interesting melody picture because as you can see here, of the have a different node and then it goes together with the same note. You know what I mean? One more time, please. Yeah, so that a doesn't really sound within E flat. So it may just trying C-ring here. So yeah, I think secion Sam, good here. Wow, okay, and now let's try B flat. However, it wasn't really qu the first time. Oh, actually, let's try again. Yeah, I guess that would be really cool because a and C, that's kind of a minor thing. Kind of sad. Maybe yes, maybe now it's still a bit questionable. So while I'm thinking, I just wanted to tell a guy that e to the same thing. Go ahead and do the notes for violet to, for the veil off other instrument. Maybe you can just draw like this and don't really care. Yeah, let's just try a D here, I think, and work. All right, so now let's switch to the cello. And first of all, I want to add a lower D for evil last note in this melody right here. Yeah, I guess that would be really cool and let me make it a bit softer. So now let's think a bit more. So for the cello, I really prefer to write in this octave today. So as you do this, making just basically copy then now here I guess. I think that'll be great. No. No. Oh, maybe he's going nowhere. I'm not sure. No. No. Whoa. Maybe this sounds us in. I mean, listen to that but I'm not sure if it sounds terrible. I know very good at fan out. Marrying the leakage so that shrink sample is big dry, but we can fix it with reverb and stuff. So now we just basically need to focus on the wing houses sounds harmonically and how beautiful it is. We just need, we don't need to focus on that quality of sound right now. So just letting you know. So basis, I guess for basis we can make something even lower. And it went to start from the D note to all Yeah, that sounds pretty deep. Do like a shaman singing and stuff. Baba, baba, baba. I like it. Now. I think we can pretty much copy a lot of things from the shallow, but not completely. And I may just drag this down. And that ih bar yeah, you make here would be great, I guess. E and now we have done Don. Oh, sorry, that was yeah. So for these see if the D We need to descend thing really are really May 2 be we can choose, do a, continue that E-flat and then it kind of simple melody for the base, but I think it's okay. ADDING WOODWIND, BRASS AND PERCUSSION : Hey everyone, My name is Danielle, and today we're going to continue arranging our main melody. So I'm going to add the brass woodwinds and maybe bird cash-in. And also I went into it to you guys now is that they actually might have find this melody a bit because in some point in one really good, it didn't sound very well. So please listen to that again and spot the difference. So yeah, I've changed it out. These two nodes. They were C and E flat, I guess. And I made them F and E. On my opinion, that's perfectly fine and it's way better than C and E flat in this melody. Alright, so now we're going to just start arranging everything. And let me open up our, our release to vanish Germans and add. So now I'm going to open the piano roll and pick the instrument i1. Let me just zoom everything. All right. And I'm going to pick ordered. So we're going to do everything in its order. So we're going to start from from DEA. Sounds so good. I love harder. Do you guys love it? I love it. Okay, Let me just copy the melody of cello. I guess that is going to be great. Yeah. And now let's listen to what's going on. Now it doesn't really fit. Okay, so let me do it that note and then I'm going to do this and word on this. Yeah. I guess that's going to be better. A perfect you guys. So I'm just going to copy them out it completely just on my painting. It didn't sound very well in this melody. Each might sound very good in something else, but not here, not in the cinematic music. Alright, so now let me just make it emit ladder, because boot is quite cool to a significant say. So I can barely hear it within all these instruments, will. I mean, I can't hear it, but not really well in the way I want. All right, my friends now we're going to add a clarinet. Salim it bake a clarinet. Okay? And here I guess we're going to just copy the melody from the oboe. But hey, actually I have got a better idea. I'm just going to. This a, and I'm going to copy the violin rake here, dot-dot, dot-dot, F, E, D. So there's going to be this and the G. Perfect. Now and let's listen to that. You guys might have noticed that these would, when sounds are kinda swallowed by the entire orchestra. When I'm going to tell you that in this case we're not, we don't want to hear like everything is the solo, every single instrument is cell. And now it's not just, you know, if it's low, these clarinet, they didn't sound very, even. They're not. Selma's by the, add some kind of a richness to this sound. And I also added some piccolo, and I did not include bases and woodwinds except for a piccolo because you know, when you just tart that melody, when it, when it's an introduction, then you can do lake less instruments compared to the main melody because it sounds really batter when at the beginning there's instruments sound softer, but an in-demand melody.
