1. Add Texture on 3D Items Introduction: What's going on, guys? It's mass from final form agency. And today we're gonna be learning how to turn on our computers. No, I'm just kidding. But what we're going to learn today actually is how to rap textures in complex 3D shapes in Photoshop. This is perfect for anybody looking to kind of get into e-commerce. Or if you want to pitch some logo designs and different items to your clients, then this is definitely the video for you. 2. Measurements: All right guys. So why don't we just go ahead and start off the tutorial. So basically, here we are in Photoshop. This is the image that we're gonna be using. You can always download the file and follow along with this tutorial. So how do we apply texture to this milk carton? I'm going to break it down in this tutorial and you guys are gonna see step-by-step how to do it. It's also applicable to in different shapes, different objects. The more complex object gets the obvious more complex. It gets rapid. Actually texturing it. So first things first is what are we going to do to make sure that we actually get the right size to make it fit on the box. Basically you have to take the measurements, right? So how do we do that? We're going to make a new layer. We're going to go over here. If you hold down on the eyedropper tool, you'll see there's ruler tool. First things first is we're going to kind of zoom in. All right. You see this faint line over here, this crease. We're going to go ahead and click and drag from one side to the other trend to make sure that the line is a straight as possible. Okay, here we go. This is the length right here, L1, 662. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna hit the brush B for brush. Then we're going to make sure that the hardness is at a 100, be easier right here. And we're going to it drop a little line. We're gonna make sure to follow our measurement, which I just forgot. 662. Okay, great. So we're gonna go ahead and write 66. Now we're gonna go ahead once again. Back into the ruler tool. We're going to measure this side now. This side is 667. So once again, I'm going to change color. Red this time. You can choose any color you want. I suggest changing them so it's more visual, easier to see what you're doing. There we go. We're going to go ahead. And to make a straight line, we're going to hit 1, hold down, Shift. Hit the other point. Here we go. The line once again. Awful memory, sorry guys. The second one was 670. So we're gonna go ahead here, right in 70. Guys, like the way I write. Here we go. We've got this one side so far. Now, we gotta get this face. We already know what the width is. Once again, I would suggest, let's change color. I'm gonna go with green. Once it down and back into the ruler tool. Gonna make another line I'm going to do from down here. Up here, that's 1130, okay? Brush three. Now what about this side? So obviously, this is facing. These are pretty much the right dimensions, but for this side over here, obviously, we're seeing it from a different perspective. It's not straight on, so it's not going to be the same side as this. It's not gonna be 662 width. So how do we do that? We're not going to go ahead and measure it because that's not going to be right. Like even if we measure it out like this, it's not going to be correct. Which is 351. Yeah, That's not even going to be right. So what we're gonna do is we're just going to go ahead and go to the next step, which is we're going to go over here into the rectangle tool shortcut. You were going to make a shape here. Before we do that, actually we're gonna go over here and write measurements. We know these are measurements. 3. Creating shapes and using Perspective Warp: Okay, once again, Rectangle tool, shortcut you. And we're going to just click once. Once we do that, we're going to make the first rectangle, the first shape, which is going to be this one right here. You could think of it as different shapes that we're gonna be interconnecting, right? So here's 12345. Simple. And for the first one, we're gonna go ahead and go with the width 662662 pixels, four by 670. Go ahead and okay, let's go ahead and move this up here. We're gonna make them next one. Tab, once I suggest changing the color, we could do that after. Which is gonna be once again 662 width by one hundred, ten hundred, one hundred and thirty. Measurements are gonna be different for you guys. It depends on depends on the accuracy that you do it. But the object is generally the same. So you can go ahead and use the numbers that I'm using or which I strongly recommend you do your own. And once again hit Okay, we're gonna change the color this time we're going to do, Let's do light-blue. Okay? Now what we're gonna do is we're gonna be dealing with this side. So what can we assume about this side? We can assume that it would be generally seventy-five percent of the width of the front side. So let's go ahead and make a copy. Command Control J. Then we're going to just move it to the side. And then once again, we're going to change the color just so that we don't get confused and it's easy to see and understand what we're doing. Okay, here we go. We got these three shapes so far. Now, what we're gonna do is we're gonna be adding another shape. We're going to just copy this green one, rectangle one. Make a copy. And we're just going to put it over to the side here. This is, we're gonna be dealing with this later. So we're just going to go in here. I suggest just right inside for right now, we can change the color. Suggests that the top one is green as well. Let's make this pink. Just nice. Okay? Alright. This is just drag it down just so it's out of the way, it turn it off. We don't have to worry about that right now. Right now what we're gonna do is we're going to select all three of our shapes. Right-click, gonna go down here. And we're gonna convert to smart object. Once you click that, we've got our Smart Object. If you double-click on it, it opens up right here. You see each individual shapes that we've made. But it's just easier to work with here so we can go ahead and close this out. Here we are. Once we've done that, we're gonna go ahead and do the perspective warp. So here we go. You're gonna go to Edit. Click perspective warp. Now we're going to just go ahead. Go over a shapes perspective warp tool. You can draw them out first like this, like I'm doing. And then we're gonna kinda go in and refine them a little bit. Here we are, we're looking good. Then what we're gonna do is we're gonna go ahead, hit warp next, so that we see what we can do. So that we see what we're doing. We're gonna be lowering the opacity. I'm going to put it down to about thirty-five percent. Also, I would not recommend when you pick out the colors are the shapes. I wouldn't recommend anything too dark. I mean, you can go ahead and do that, but it'll be a tiny bit counterproductive and especially avoid white because it'll be super counterproductive. Because it'll be harder to see if you have any spill going on. Here we are. We can also do guys right? Aligning this. We can also do we're going to hit checkmark or under. I suggest, boom, turn off the measurements. Now what we do to get back into perspective warp is just under perspective warp. Just double-click. Here we are. Go ahead and lower the opacity of 20%. We're gonna go ahead and hit Enter. Then what we're not going to want to forget to do, guys is safe. Just like I didn't do. So. It's very important because when we're using the Perspective Warp tool, It's very fussy in Photoshop, so it's been known a crash a lot. Just save the most that you can the most way you want. It obviously will just work in your favor if it crashes. And you could just pick up where you left off. Instead of doing what I do sometimes which I was saved. Not enough once a crashes. And you gotta go ahead and do a bunch of work all over again, which is counterproductive. I'm going to go ahead and fix this a tiny bit more. Also guys don't be scared to go tiny bit over just because we're going to be masking it out later. So it's better to go a little over than a little under. Right? Now what we're gonna do is we're gonna name this front side. Now that that's done, we're going to repeat this in process to the inside. We're gonna go ahead and increase the opacity a 100. Now I see, I should fix this side a little bit. So let me go back in and fix this. We're looking good. So now that we have the front side, we're gonna go over here, drag then setup it on. We could turn this off, turn it on, whatever you feel most comfortable with. And then we're gonna move the shape where we're going to make a copy. Put it next to it, are going to change the color just like we did before. We're just repeating the same process. Once that's done, what are we going to do? We're going to select both. Right-click. Convert it to Smart Object. This is gonna be inside. Once again. Once that's done, we're going to want to place it so that it's easier for us to work with. We can also scale down a tiny bit, which is what I'm gonna be doing right now. Right? All right. I'll put it about here. Go onto can't edit. Perspective warp, same as before. There's one shape. Here's the other and then refine. We go, That looks pretty good. I'm going to hit warp. Lower the opacity. Once again. We're just going to go ahead. We're going to enter this. And then what we're gonna do is we're just gonna drag friend's head up and I turn it on. We can see what we're doing. Go back in. I'm going to the opacity to about 30. Double-click perspective warp. Show up. You can see where to match it. 4. Creating and adjusting the texture: All right guys, so it looks pretty good. I'll leave it there. Now once you look at it, this looks pretty bad, right? So what we're gonna do is we're going to select both of these. We're going to group them together. And we're going to label this texture. There we go. So here comes the next step of this whole process, which is we're gonna make a mask. And we're gonna do that by masking out the carton. What's the best way to do that? You could do the quick selection tool. I wouldn't recommend it as much because it's once again, not super reliable, not incredibly professional, and it's white on white. You could do that. You could just do Select Subject. Sure, that works pretty good. But what we're gonna do instead is we're going to be using the pen tool. Strip, going to hit P shortcut for pen tool. I like to make a copy, usually just Control Command J. Zoom in. We're going to start tracing some points. Once you've made your selection. Right-click. Make sure that you're under path and not shape. Could right-click. Make selection. Once that's done, we're going to turn on texture. We're going to click on it with our selection. Then we're gonna go ahead and hit the Mask button. Here we go, so that access is disappeared. So what we would be doing now is we'd be applying a blend mode. Which blend mode do we apply? Let me just break it down super easy. Since the product is white, whatever you print on it, meaning our texture will be darker than the white. The blend mode, which dark and stuff is going to be multiply. Which is what we're going to go ahead And we're gonna do right now. So instead of pass-through, gonna go down, hit Multiply. We're gonna go in here and make sure it's all at 100%. Okay, we're good on that. Here we go. Now comes the part that I liked the most, which is actually applying the pattern, the design or whatever you've chosen. You can use an image, whatever you want, an illustration. By doing that, what we're gonna do is we're going to click open the texture group, getting wonder front side. And we're going to double-click. It's going to open here. Once we do that, we're going to hit Shift, select all of them. And we're gonna make a group. This group. What we're gonna do next is we're going to go under here pattern. You can see my pattern, but I chose us this. You can scale it up to be whatever you like you could do 1020. My pattern isn't super seamless. So what I like to do is I'm gonna go in and probably do anything that is a bit more seamless for it gives that affects 65%. It's about good. Once that's done, we're going to hit Save. We're going to go back into here. As you guys see. It's applied, it we're going to go to the inside. We're gonna do here is the same thing we did before. Select both of them. We're gonna make a group. Fergana, going to hear pattern. We're going to write the same number that we did before, which is I picked 65. It'll be different for whatever pattern you pick are like. I'm gonna hit okay, wonky stuff that I forgot before, which is what we're gonna be doing now, is we're gonna make a clipping mask. So it's gonna be clip mask to the group. There we go. Save. Now let me go back to rectangle one because this is not clipping masks. Clipping mask, very important. Here we go. We're gonna go back to milk carton. Full law. Let me show you guys what happens when you don't clip mask. It is what I just did. If it's just a pattern. Grouped it. We're gonna go over here. Pattern. We're going to change it this time. We're going to do water. For example. You don't have to follow along this part. I'm just showing you guys what happens when you don't clip mask it. Okay. Here it is. I'm just going to hit Save. All right. This is what happens. This is what happens when you do clip mask it, which is important and not a step that you should forget like I did. Right-click. Create clipping mask. All right, so this shows the shape women before, which is the equivalent of front, the front side. We're going to save. We're going to go back into here. There we go. And now it's saved. We're gonna go back into here. And as you see, it is clip mask specifically only to the front side. Let me go ahead and undo this. We change the pattern. The pattern that I've pretty selected. Disappear. Go with 65. Save. If not, it's not gonna show up. Going to go back here. Alright, so what do we notice? Here in this area? It's a tiny bit product problematic. Why is that? Because the design isn't, is it looks and you can see, it doesn't look. You can see that there's a clear separation. There's a line here where the pattern isn't seamless. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna go under Window. We're going to go onto arrange. And we're going to do two up Horizontal. Click this. Now. We're gonna go in here and side. Then we're going to just open the pattern. I'm gonna move it over a little bit. Save what happened. Alright? So what I can do is I should be going the opposite way. So once again, opened it up here. I'm gonna drag this over here. Save once again. We're getting closer. Told about trial and error. You're just gonna keep doing it until pans out. Having superclass. Here we are. 5. Different Colored Objects: Another thing that I wanted to show you guys before finishing off the tutorial is this box, okay? So what do you do if you find an item that you want to apply this texture, this wrapping too, but it isn't white. Basically, this box right here is not White. So what would you do in that case? What I did over here is did a color fill, a curves adjustment, and a gradient map. With that, I created three clipping masks and I clipped it to the color of, I mean, not the color to the box. What to color that I desired, which is white, which made the process easier because it shows up more, it looks more clean, more crisp. So with that, I clip masked Color, Fill. Then I went ahead and made a curves adjustment, which made it look even more realistic because now it actually looks like a white box. And then add the gradient map, which kind of adds a bit more, I say, the kinematic texture. It, it just looks a little less. White, intense white, fake white. Once I was done, went ahead. Same process, same pattern. The results, the same thing as here, the milk carton. That's basically another little quick, super quick tip on how you guys would go about it if the object isn't white, you just create a color film clip mask. It, Curves Adjustment, Gradient Map is optional, but honestly, whatever gives you more control, I'll usually go ahead and do that because it's just more refined and it looks better. 6. Change Background and add glow: What could we do to further this? There is one thing we could do, which is simply James's background. Well, how do we do that? We're gonna go over here where our mask is. We're gonna hit, gonna hit Command or Control and hit it once. Once we do that, our selection is active. We're going to go hurry here. We're going to make a solid color adjustment. This is gonna be the color of the background story about the white selected right now. And just pick a color that you would kind of like. If I have the background, I'm gonna go ahead and probably pick a light blue. There we go. Okay. We're gonna go over here and the mask, we're going to invert the mask. There we go. Now, what's left to do is since the background is also white, the same way we changed the white blend mode of the box. We're gonna be doing the same here, which is multiply. Once we do that, you guys see the shadow pop back up again. Now that we did that, we can pretty much changed the background to any color you'd like. Just by doing that, just go crazy. The last thing that we could do is adding a tiny bit of glow, making it pop a tiny bit, which is, we do that by doing what? Adding curves, great, so we're going to brighten it up a little bit about there. It looks pretty good. I'm not going to overshoot, it doesn't really make sense. We want to make it look nice and bright. Okay, great. We're going to invert the mask brush. We're going to make sure that the brush is not a 100% hardness, It's very soft. I'm gonna go ahead and do 0% hardness online. Go over here and kind of dab on. Obviously you want to make sure that the brush, it's not a black on white. Now we're just gonna go ahead. Kind of DHAP before and after with the depth. So what we'll do is we're going to go ahead and get rid of it from here. The line more visible. This is just going to show me right now. Okay. Before and after with it. Here you guys are. This is the finished product. 7. Conclusion and assignment: So once again, let's go back into the milk carton. To conclude, I wanted to thank you guys for tuning in and back on another video. The assignment is, go ahead and make one yourself use whatever pattern you want to use.
