Map lovers, travelers, hosts, neighborhood enthusiasts & people who like to know where they’re going or where they’ve been, this class is for you.
Whether you host guests in your home on a regular basis, are planning a party or event where you need a map, you have a zest for travel, or just plain love your neighborhood and want to map it, this class is designed to get your creative juices flowing and to map out some of your favorite places into a visual guide.
Map your own neighborhood or memories from your latest travel adventure – you to choose the focus of your travel/map. The finished projects may be themed guides around a favorite topic, chart your favorite places, or to show visitors what they need to know when they visit you. You'll cover possible formats (think 1 “page”), styles and methods for you to present your final work as well. In this class you’ll be given the tools to help your mind travel.
HOW IT WORKS
You can move along at your own pace (and will have access to everything forever). The lectures are front loaded to help accommodate busy schedules and allow more time to work on final projects. They’ll be jam packed with ideas, inspiration + resources. Each lecture will include quick exercises to help get your creative wheels churning and you thinking in new ways.
The first lecture will be devoted to the analog, phyiscal maps and basic concepting. Did you know there’s a Hand Drawn Map association? Well, there is. The second lecture will be devoted to the digital + online mapping systems + the ways you can integrate your final projects. Students are encouraged to share their work and comment on that of their classmates to help push each other’s projects forward. Groups are welcome to form and host their own Google Hangouts to bounce around ideas and ask for feedback. It’s always fun to get to know your classmates (there even could be professional contacts!).
UPDATE: The first round of this class there were more than 700 students from 34 countries around the world covering all 5 continents taking part. They are all mapped out here! Read more about Anne through her life in maps!
I have a lot of creative contacts in the industry, so working on cooking up some other possibilities as well!.As an added bonus, just by hanging out you’ll learn about tons of awesome places to check out around the world thanks to your classmates’ projects! The top 10 maps will be featured on Prêt à Voyager with some link love to go with it . (This does not necessarily mean most/best designed; creativity and expression will also be taken into consideration. Think: BE MEMORABLE).
