Capturing meaningful portraits is a great way to be thoughtful about what moves you, express your artistic voice, find gratitude, and tell your unique story. In this workshop, you’ll look at yourself, your muse, and your surroundings more closely — finding the beauty and inspiration in your experience. You’ll learn how to work with light, think about framing, and be ready to capture the perfect moments when they happen. When you’re done, you’ll have a polished 9-photo portrait album you can be proud of! Share it with your community to connect with friends from afar and save it for posterity to commemorate this unique time. A DSLR or phone camera will work for this workshop.
Workshop Timeline
Milestone 1: First up, join photographer Tabitha Park in Self-Portraits: Telling Your Unique Story. You’ll get a primer on camera settings for portraits, learn how to set up shots for dramatic effect, and work through a simple exercise for finding the story you want to tell. Share three of your favorite portraits in the Project Gallery by May 13th.
Milestone 2: Next, join photographer Andrew Knapp for Photograph Your Pet: One Muse, Endless Possibilities, a Skillshare Original. You’ll choose a subject that’s close to your heart — a friend, family member, pet, or even an object — and create an eye-catching collection of images with a consistent look and feel. Share your favorite three muse portraits in the Project Gallery by May 22nd.
Milestone 3: Finally, join photographer Sean Dalton in Lifestyle Photography: Immersive Storytelling with Photo Albums. In this class you’ll learn how to capture great lighting, achieve balanced dark and moody shots, and see your space with a photographer’s eye. Pick your three favorite shots and share the completed 9-shot album in the Project Gallery by June 1st. Share it on Instagram too: #SkillsharePortraitsofHome.
