About This Workshop
Make 2019 the year you learn calligraphy! Try your hand at the ancient art and learn from world-renowned artists in this comprehensive workshop. In under four weeks, you’ll complete two classes designed to help give you the tools, techniques, and best practices to transform your handwriting into beautiful calligraphy script. You’ll put your new knowledge into practice by completing exercises and project prompts designed to help build your confidence and refine your technique. No prior experience required!
Workshop Timeline:
- Milestone 1: First up, we’ll dive into Calligraphy Fundamentals: Letterforms and Flourishing with world-renowned artist Seb Lester. He’ll take us behind the scenes and share his process for creating perfect italic letterforms that have character and flourish. This comprehensive class is packed with exercises to help you start putting pen to paper. At the end, you’ll share your final project — your own name in calligraphy script. Upload your project by January 19th.
- Milestone 2: Once you’ve gotten a handle on the basics, the best thing you can do is practice, practice, practice! So we’re going to focus on how to cultivate a daily calligraphy practice by completing Calligraphy Essentials: A 10-Day Challenge. In this class, artist Bryn Chernoff takes you through 10 days of warm-ups and exercises to help you transform your work in just 10 minutes a day. Every lesson is packed with insider tips, from types of nibs to affect your slant to how your breathing can influence your writing. Share your progress by uploading your worksheets to the project gallery by January 31st.
