Join three accomplished freelance artists for inspiration, advice, and essential tactics for transforming your artistic work into a successful creative business. Learn how to focus and brand your work, create art for products, and find buyers. Gain a holistic understanding of how the different parts of a business work, and what you really need to know to build your own. You don’t need any special tools for this workshop, just show up ready to get the motivation and guidance you need to make your dream happen.
Workshop Timeline
- Milestone 1: You already love to make things, but finding a way to make things into more than a hobby can feel big and hard. In From Dreaming to Doing, a Skillshare Talk, you’ll hear from Bonnie Christine, a surface pattern designer, educator, and creative entrepreneur who successfully transitioned from a dreamer to a doer. In this presentation she shares her strategies for tackling goals, creating a signature style, and finding financial stability as an artist. You’ll learn how she achieved her dream of being a surface pattern designer, with patience and a lot of self-love. There is no project associated with this talk; it sets the stage for Milestone 2.
- Milestone 2: Now that you’re fired up and ready to jump in, join freelance illustrator Brooke Glaser for Make a Living as an Artist: Strategies for Crafting Your Creative Business. In this class you’ll get a clear overview of visual art freelancing — from conceiving of your business focus, to creating the right systems, to finding clients. Brooke will build on Bonnie’s inspirational story, providing concrete steps for creating a strong foundation for your business. Share who you are and what your creative business is about by February 12th.
- Milestone 3: Last, in Art Licensing Fundamentals: Finding Buyers for Your Art, surface designer and illustrator Shannon McNab will walk you through research, concepting, and preparing your art for submission. This class is focused on selling art to companies, and includes valuable tips on how to package your work and present it well. Share a screenshot of your portfolio and the word list you created to describe your art by February 24th.
