Join me for this workshop and learn how to create stunning flat lay photographs in just 2 weeks!
Have you seen beautiful 'flat lay' images on Instagram and thought how fabulous they look, but when you’ve come to create them yourself you just haven’t been able to make them look anything like as good?
Or maybe you’ve never tried to create your own but are looking for new Instagram ideas to zing up your gallery?
Well, join this workshop and I’ll give you a helping hand to create flat lay photographs that you can be really proud of!
You'll learn exactly what a flat lay is and how to choose the right items to photograph. I'll give you tips on how to compose, style, photograph and edit your images to make your Instagram gallery sparkle!
Whether you use your Instagram for business or pleasure, flat lays are super popular and will be a great addition to your gallery to help you attract new followers and promote your work.
Alternatively, if you don't use Instagram or your gallery is already just the way you want it, feel free to join in with the sole purpose of learning something new and challenging yourself to create some beautiful images!
How it works
Enrol in my class, 'Design For Instagram: Creating the Perfect Flat Lay Photograph', watch the lessons over two weeks and complete the following project phases:
Phase 1 (Lessons 1-5) Think about the look of your Instagram gallery and think about themes and colours that might work well alongside the rest of your images. Choose your favourite theme and use the project gallery to let us know what you've chosen to focus on. You could upload inspirational images that you've found to help demonstrate this, or just describe it in words (or both!). (Due date 12 July)
Phase 2 (Lesson 6) Scour your home, the nearest gift shop, your garden, the beach or wherever else you think would be suitable, for items and backgrounds that will suit your theme and add a quick snap to the project gallery. Don't worry about composing an image for this - a pile in the middle of the floor will do! (Due date 16 July)
Phase 3 (Lessons 7-8) Head to the place in your home that has the best natural light, compose your image using the tips in the video lessons and take some photographs. Upload your 3 favourites to the gallery. There's no need to edit these before you do this - that's the final phase! (Due date 20 July)
Phase 4 (Lessons 9-10) Finally, edit your image using whichever editing tool you prefer (e.g. camera editing tools, VSCO, PicTapGo, Photoshop etc) and upload your final images to the project gallery and also to Instagram using #skillshareflatlays. (Due date 24 July)
Upload each phase to the project gallery once you have completed it.
AMA (Ask Me Anything)
I'll be holding an AMA (Ask Me Anything) at 2pm EST on Wednesday 20 July 2016 to give you the chance to put your questions to me live. Of course, you can ask questions or leave comments in the class discussion before, during or after the workshop and I'll check in regularly to answer them.
Equipment/ Skills Needed
No special knowledge, equipment or skills are needed to take this workshop. You just need a camera (a smartphone camera is ideal if you are planning to post your images on social media) and a few objects to photograph!
It would also help to have a willingness to take part in class discussions and comment on other students' work. Skillshare works best when it is a collaborative thing, and I'm a big believer in the power of giving feedback to help improve not just the work of the person you're critiquing, but also your own work by helping you think about it more critically.
What Will I Get?
I'll send regular reminders to help you stay on track and keep up with the suggested due dates during the workshop. I'll also give regular, personalised feedback on your work for each phase of the workshop.
By the end of the workshop, you should find that you feel much more at home composing and photographing flat lays and that your Instagram gallery is looking amazing! Oh, and there's the chance to win an awesome prize (see below)!
Prize!
Everyone who completes all four phases of the workshop and uploads their project to the project gallery by 24 July 2016 will have the chance to win:
I'll select the winner once the workshop has finished and everyone's projects are in.
Can't wait to get started! Sign up now and I look forward to seeing you on 10 July.
