Whether you’re a total beginner looking for an introduction to After Effects or an experienced animator looking to strengthen your grasp of the basics, this is the perfect workshop for you! Begin with a step-by-step guide to After Effects, learning basic principles and tools to animate your own custom GIF. Then, build on what you’ve learned with the After Effects graph editor and take full control of your motion. Finally, learn what it takes to create stunning, lifelike movement for your characters. You’ll need access to Adobe After Effects for this workshop.
Workshop Timeline
- Milestone 1: In The Beginner’s Guide to Animating Custom Gifs, you’ll join animator Jake Bartlett for an easy entry into motion design. Jake will show you how to use basic tools, animate your design into a loop, and export a GIF in Photoshop to share with your friends! Share your GIF in the project gallery by March 31st.
- Milestone 2: Next up, join Jake again in Animating with Ease in After Effects, and build on your new After Effects skills. Add “graph editor” to your toolbox and take control of the look and feel of your motion design. Share your own animated house to the project gallery by April 9th.
- Milestone 3: Now that you have a strong foundation, join animator and motion designer Emanuele Colombo for The Art of Animation: How to Create Lifelike Movement, a Skillshare Original. Emanuele will demystify animated movement with the help of a list of animation principles developed by two Disney animators in the 80’s. Then, he’ll show you how to follow these principles with After Effects to add character, personality, and lifelike movement to your characters. Share your animation to the project gallery by April 19th.
