All you need for this workshop is your favorite paper and paints (if you only have watercolor and no gouache, or vice versa, that’s just fine!)

Workshop Timeline

Milestone 1: First up, watch Watercolor in the Woods: A Beginners Guide to Painting the Natural World with Rosalie Haizlett. This soothing, meditative class includes clear guidance for total beginners with plenty of tips for experienced painters. You’ll learn how to take a great reference photo, create an accurate pencil sketch, and use watercolor layering techniques to bring your sketch to life. Share your painting in the Project Gallery by May 18th.
Milestone 2: Next, in Botanical Illustration: Paint a Colorful Garden with Watercolor and Gouache, a Skillshare Original, print designer and illustrator Sara Boccaccini Meadows will teach you how to create loose sketches, mix colors, and add detail, while you find inspiration and sketch on-location in your favorite natural places. If getting out in nature isn’t possible for you right now, you can also paint from a photograph! Share your painted garden in the project gallery by June 1st.
