Do you want this year to be better than last year?

I do. I want every year to be better than the year before. That’s why one of my practices is to learn something new every day.

Continuous learning is how top achievers get better every year, and how you can too.

This is why I’ve decided to create an Ask Jill Anything (AJA) Column for you. The first AJA is below!

Where did I get the idea?

Yesterday, I looked at my Skillshare stats and was gobsmacked as I realized my growth. For the longest time (my first year on Skillshare), I’d averaged 96 students per month.

Then whammo. Over the past 3 months, I've averaged 1,023 students per month! (Thank you!!!)

Two things struck me when I discovered I’d 10X’d my monthly growth.

First, I was reminded, that’s how success shows up. Slowly … ever so slowly (sometimes feeling like it may never happen) then, suddenly, there it is. All at once.

Second, I decided I wanted to do more for you; help you play even bigger, and get more of what you want, even faster. That’s where my new AJA column comes in. I want to help you learn whatever it is you need to know to achieve your most important goals this year.

Volume 1: Ask Jill Anything (high performance related)

The first question for Ask Jill Anything came in as a DM from a student who follows and chats with me on Instagram from time to time. He was responding to a story I posted about a 5AM sunrise.

In my case, I usually wake up at 7AM, but I like to keep my mornings calm and mellow until at least 8AM, so I am not considered a ‘morning person.’

And while I’m certainly not the most successful person out there, my life is the best it’s ever been.

Five years ago, I was in 6 figures of debt caused by my car accident, depressed, and in a career slump wondering if I’d ever be able to figure out what could make me happy. Three years ago, I was doing better, but I had chosen a career (productivity consulting) that required long hours and long drives in rush hour traffic to get to my clients' offices.

Last year, I made well over 3X the sales I did the year before, and as my 1,073 Instagram and 20,670 Facebook followers can attest, I did it mostly from my living room, while traveling the world visiting rain forests, beaches in Bali and Puerto Rico, hawker centers in Singapore, or looking at the ocean right now as I am writing to you.

But it’s not just me who can succeed without starting my day at 5AM.

Dan Pink, one of the world’s most respected authors on human behavior and performance, confirms this in his book When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing.

And I have more evidence from the real world too. Way back when I ran my restaurant in Toronto, we had several multimillionaire regulars, I remember multimillionaire tech-inventor in particular who proudly admitted he woke up at 10AM each day and did his best work late at night.

Science confirms it, and so do real people. Whether you do or don’t like mornings is not a deal breaker in your success. What matters more is that you are setting and steadily moving toward goals you care about.

Developing your important goals and maintaining steady progress toward them is the easiest way to become better than you were before. Then, like my Skillshare success, when you stick with it long enough, seemingly suddenly, you’ll have what you want.
