Create wallpaper with hand-drawn illustrations.

ASSIGNMENT

Your assignment is to create wallpaper using hand-drawn illustrations. This is a really fun assignment with two big benefits: you're creating something fun, and you're gaining a deeper understanding of patterns and how they work.

Right now, there are a lot of automated ways to create digital pattern, but only by creating a pattern by hand can you really get a feel for how the different shapes, colors, and scale really work together in a repeat.

MATERIALS

Use the video lessons, resources below (including this step-by-step tutorial), and discussion sections for inspiration and guidance. All you'll need for this assignment is paper, pens and markers, and some analog way to reproduce your work (old-school Xerox, camera + printer, scanner, Photoshop, etc.).

DELIVERABLE

It's up to you whether you want to wallpaper your entire bedroom! This assignment can be just as effective by creating the core tile — and then you'll have endless options for digitization and application.
