While I am only at the beginning of my grant writing experience, most recently I was helping a client edit a grant proposal.  The main problem I found that was they tended to restate the same information in multiple ways, which caused the overall writing to lack in clarity. Initially I was confused what their organization did and how they anticipated using the funding. As for working on proposals in general, I've found that rushing certainly can allow little mistakes to creep through.
