Loose florals
I'm going to skip process pics this time. Why? ohh, here's the story:
I chose my watercolor sketchbook for this project. You see, I was pretty sure I would nail it on the first time, considering how much I have been practicing my loose watercolor skills. I sketched my flowers, painted them and then some leaves and that's when I realized I messed up. I tried to fix it with more leaves, bigger leaves! different shapes!, no, watery shapes! okay, let's use white watercolor to soften it up!... Maaaybe some pencil details can fix it. Well, nope:
I wasn't even surprised, from the moment I started hesitating and adding more to "fix it" I knew this would serve just as a learning experience. I tried again, this time on loose watecolor paper I previously used for testing colors. I went crazy, I just wanted to "sketch with watercolors" and figure our a good looking composition. I call this second attempt "asjfgsjfgasjf florals", because that's exactly what I did with my watercolors and brush (lower left corner).
Far from what I was expecting, but now it was personal. I didn't want to stop before I could figure out why I couldn't even nail the first steps. So, I took deep breaths like I was told at "Tara Brach's radical compassion challenge" and chose colors intuitively, having fun and just letting go of expectations. It felt way better this time, more to my liking but I wasn't satisfied and felt it wasn't loose enough. I let it rest and moved to my final piece before adding pencil details to this one (but now you see the final version, which I really liked)
Something I really liked was that, instead of adding wonky lines with pencil, I loosely wrote some text on the long leaves. It's wonky enough that it's hard to read, but still has text vibes.
Finally!, this time I was more moderate with my leaves and it paid off!. Added details and liked it even more! After that, I went back to the blue-purple bouquet to added pencil details. I was finally happy with these last 2, YAY!
Thank you Jessica! you made my creative muscles have a good stretch! :D
