<p>This is awesome! I like how you used high-value retrieval for the fur and you did not make the mistake of lining out the fur with defined lines as some artists do. The mouth on your lion is my favorite part because you have the most contrast between your values there. Your blending is extremely smooth, you have done a very good job with your gradation in that regard. I really like how you used high-value retrieval and you used low values in your lion's whiskers. That is a really smart way to bring out multiple line weights and line qualities. I will have to try that myself when I draw my next cat. All in all, this is a really good drawing! Ok so I followed along on the YouTube tutorial for the great white. What do you think? I messed up the placement of the fin and didn't realize it until I had shaded it and everything. Grr.

Hello Kimberly, proportions are one of the hardest things to get right in any drawing. If I had a dollar for every time my proportions were off I would be a millionaire. Don't stress too much about the placement of the fin, because you have so much more to celebrate in this piece. For example, you did an excellent job with your linework. You made sure to add a line on the bottom of the tail fin but not the back of it. You gave the tail fin a greater sense of form by doing that so great work! I also like how you added a line to the bottom of the tail but not the top, again great eye! You also did a perfect job with your high-value retrievals in this one. You were sure to watch the direction of your eraser strikes and because of that, you were able to convey a very convincing form to the whole body of the shark. The only critique I would give is when it comes to the dorsal fin maybe put a line on the bottom of it, this will effectively elongate the image and make the head of the shark look like it is closer to the viewer than the dorsal fin is. All in all, you did a very good job! Keep up the great work, remember it's not about drawing something perfect, it's about learning something new. Hope this helped and take care!

It definitely helped! I went back and added a line to the bottom of the dorsal and you're absolutely right. And thanks for the reminder that it's not about getting it perfect, but learning something new. Sometimes I cant see the forest for the tree. :)
