Interview with the Project Manager - student project

1. How long ago did you start Managing Projects?

I began my career in project management approximately 10 years ago when I joined the company. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to manage a wide range of projects, from small-scale initiatives to complex, multi-million-endeavors.

2. What is your favorite thing about Managing Projects?

One of my favorite things about managing projects is the opportunity to lead a diverse team toward a common goal. I enjoy the challenge of bringing together individuals with different skills and backgrounds and seeing how their collaboration can produce outstanding results.

3. What do you think are the perks of the job vs. other roles?

Project management offers several unique perks. Firstly, it provides a holistic view of the organization's operations, allowing me to understand how different departments and processes interconnect. Secondly, the role fosters strong leadership and communication skills, as I need to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders regularly. Finally, the ability to see a project through from inception to completion is incredibly satisfying, and it offers a sense of ownership that may not be as prevalent in other roles.

4. What are the challenges of being a PM?

One of the main challenges is managing conflicting priorities and tight deadlines. Balancing the needs of stakeholders, the limitations of resources, and unexpected issues that may arise during a project requires constant adaptability and effective communication.

5. What has been a major accomplishment you're proud of?

A major accomplishment I'm proud of is successfully implementing a new project management methodology within our organization. This involved training the team, aligning processes, and overcoming resistance to change. The project was completed within the deadline, and we saw significant improvements in efficiency and project outcomes.
