Mix It Up: Learn to Mix Any Color With Acrylic Paint

Ruth, this looks really great! You look like you really got into the mixing and laid out your grid really nicely. I like to sometimes mix this project up by moving forward with different patterns too. Here is an example of another pattern type that I did the other day. You can play with tracing differing circular objects and layering them across each other. I love this!! You gave me an idea of using using light colors and darker ones to study background/foreground relationships. I'll come up with an abstract pattern and then use that pattern to experiment with different colors and combinations. I'd like to see by myself how colors make things pop out or recede. In your painting, the bigger pinkish and yellow circle seems to be behind the two smaller spheres, but at the same time gives the impression of being in front of the (mostly) brown colors.

Yes, that sounds perfect, Ruth! You are so spot on about how color works contextually to make things move and shift. I will be looking forward to seeing your next piece exploring the background/foreground and the over all Figure to ground relationship!

I might do this project again but with a different pattern. This was a very relaxing activity!
