For this class project, you're going to be recording a simple scene involving a screen.

Like this one.

I'll be demonstrating all of this on a Top-down iPad shot.

But these techniques apply to all screens, no matter if you want to record a phone, laptop, or TV. The only requirement is that you're able to change the brightness of your screen.

As far as recording equipment goes, a camera that has a spot exposure metering mode is preferred. You should find this function under "Metering mode" in your camera settings.

If you use a phone or your cameras do not have a spot exposure meter, you can still follow the class, but you’ll need to do a bit more trial and error when matching the brightness of the screen.

I’ll also be using a grey card for measuring the exposure of my scene. It's going to help with getting the most accurate results when screen matching.

If you don't have one, don't stress about it. I included a simple trick on using your hands to measure your exposure.
