Croeso, I’m thrilled that you’re interested in the beautiful Welsh language and are taking a moment to find out a little about me, dw i'n gwerthfawrogi hynny'n fawr iawn (I very much appreciate that)!

More than 200 languages have become extinct in my lifetime and as someone raised outside of the Welsh language, who then married into a fully Welsh speaking family, I quickly came to realize the importance of ensuring Welsh didn’t disappear from this family because of my lack of knowledge.

So through various adult education classes and a lot of forcing myself to speak Welsh to native speakers even when I was painfully slow, I got to the point where I can and do, now teach it.

Because weirdly, there truly are some advantages to being a learner when it comes to helping others.

When my children were in Welsh-medium education and struggling to know when to mutate (every learner’s favourite question!), after hearing their mother-tongue Welsh speaking father’s answer “I don’t know, you just do”, enough times, they realized their mother knew the answer and could explain it – because she’d been through the same difficulties and frustrations as the!

Although, I’ve been teaching human Biology in British and American Universities for more than 30 years (experience which has been invaluable in helping me to learn how to help people learn!) during those same decades, I’ve taught in-person and online adult education classes in the Welsh language in Cardiff, Wales, New York and even Columbus, Ohio. There truly are a lot of people around who want to learn this beautiful language, inspired by everything from family heritage to Rob, Ryan and Welcome to Wrexham and so I whole-heartedly welcome you to our great big Welsh speaking family.
