This is a part 1 of a 2 part class on how create magical galaxies with 3 different colour palettes, starting with the easiest colour palette to progress on to more complicated colour combinations.

The painting lessons will all be done in real time, so students are able to paint along as they watch the lessons. It will also be divided into separate layers for different lessons so the students will have time to sufficiently dry each layer of their painting, because this is key in building the vibrancy of the colours.

In this class I will also cover tips and tricks along the way to avoid unwanted watercolour blooms and muddy colours so everyone can create vivid and vibrant galaxies no matter the level.

I will do a quick swatch and colour mixing of all the colours we’re going to be using for all three of the galaxy paintings.

1st Layer: Mapping out colours 10:57

The first layer is where the composition is thought out along with colour mapping for the next layers to come.

2nd Layer: Establishing movement and introducing contrast 15:51

The second layer is where the movement of the painting and contrast of the colours will start to develop.

3rd Layer: Pushing the contrast and smoothing out the background 13:43

The 3rd layer is the final touch up of the galaxy background where we will be pushing the contrast limits using brave colours and high opacity, followed with cleaning and smoothing any parts of the painting, to create a much cleaner finish.
