I'll show you my tricks for the easiest place to start with travel sketching: building facades and landscapes. We won't have to worry about perspective or figures--just lines and shapes and colors. You can download my images, choose photos from your own travels, or--even better--go out into your neighborhood and practice these techniques on the scene.

No matter what you choose to draw, please upload your project and share it with the class! I'll be here to answer any questions you want to post in the class discussion, too.

SUPPLIES

I've attached a detailed list with links, but feel free to keep it simple! At a minimum, you'll need:

Sketchbook with watercolor paper

Pencil and eraser

Waterproof pens or markers (not water-soluble! Look for "waterproof" or "permanent")

Travel watercolor palette with a basic color selection

Travel-sized watercolor brush

Container for water, rag for cleaning, binder clips, small ruler
