Hi, I'm BENNETT ELIOTT, an independent artist, songwriter, and producer with a passion for creating music that connects on an emotional level. My journey began when I studied Independent Music Production at York St John University, where I honed my skills in songwriting, production, and storytelling. Over the years, I've released original music that has been featured on BBC Introducing and multiple radio stations, resonating with listeners through its honesty and vulnerability.
As a self-produced artist, I've learned the ins and outs of crafting songs from scratch, even without access to live instruments. My experience includes producing two EPs, including my most recent release, I Know You Know, which explores themes of self-reflection, vulnerability, and openness.

Throughout this course, you’ll complete a series of in-depth exercises that will guide you through defining your artist identity, building your brand, understanding distribution, planning releases, and navigating marketing as an independent artist.
Your class project is to bring all of that together into your Indie Artist Starter Kit:
a personalized, practical toolkit that reflects what you’ve learned and the direction you want to take.
To complete your project, compile the following based on your exercises:

Artist Identity Summary
A clear paragraph or short bio that captures your sound, story, and artistic values. -
Brand Snapshot
A mood board or written breakdown of your visual identity: colours, imagery, fonts, and vibe. (You can upload a Canva image, PDF, or simple notes.) -
Release & Distribution Plan
Choose one track (or an upcoming project) and outline how you plan to release it: platforms, timeline, and whether you’ll use a distributor. -
Marketing Approach
A brief strategy describing how you’ll promote yourself. This might include social media platforms you’ll focus on, content ideas, or grassroots efforts like local gigs. -
3-Month Action Plan
Set realistic short-term goals for the next 3 months. What are your first steps as an independent artist using the strategies you’ve learned?
Sharing Your Project
Upload it in any format you like. Text, PDF, slide deck, or mood board. The important thing is that you’re bringing your vision and strategy into one place.
This project isn’t about perfection — it’s about clarity, confidence, and action.
