About Me

Hello reader, my name is Daniel Xavier Lane, and I am an aspiring creative currently living in Austin, Texas. Growing up as a third culture kid I experienced many different peoples, places, and cultures. The influences in my life regarding, clothing, music, and media have molded me into who I am. I've been working on a clothing brand "(hueman)DNA" for the past three years. The original concept behind (hueman)DNA revolved around the relationship between my best friend and I, two separate entities coming together to give life to a completely new being (in the way two DNA strands come together to create life). I wouldn't have become me without him or all of the other influences in my life, and in that sense the clothing brand represents unity, influence and collaboration. I believe everything in the universe is connected, and my brand seeks to highlight those connections. I'm also pretty nerdy about science and philosophy so I've tried to bring those specific interests into the design aspects as well.

Submission

My submission for the class project is the original DNA Dual Tone Logo Tee, the logo comes from both a DNA strand and also the infinity sign combined, to remind people that although we are just individual human beings, together we become a part of something bigger. The blue and white colors within the logo represent the duality of human beings, the positive and the negative, the happiness and sadness within us all. I specifically chose blue and white because they also represent water and air, and without these two essential ingredients we could not exist as a species. Life is a cycle, a delicate balance, that may sway to one extreme, but will always find its way back to the middle. For this shirt I had it professionally printed at a local printing company in Austin, to ensure that each shirt met the quality standard that I required. I went through a lot of samples and research until I found the shirt that had the fit, feel, and right weight I was looking for. In the past I have built my own silkscreens, press, used heat transfers, cut and sewn pieces,

Photo Story

My brand has gone through many iterations over time, and the changes have always been a very organic process stemming from my personal experiences. It starts in 2012 when a buddy of mine and I started a rap duo "HuemenCollective." The music was short lived, but the passion I found in creating stuck with me. The following is a photo story with select images showcasing the evolution of the brand over the past three years from day one, enjoy the journey, I definitely have:
