watercolor studies

Hi!

Thank you Ana for this class!

I decided to join the 100 days project this year and to combine it with this class in order to get more familiar with watercolors because I was always kind of just playing with them but I wanted to get to know them better.

I also wanted to learn to mix colors but I was always to lazy and too playful to try that: when I picked up a brush I just wanted to dip it into colors instinctively and paint... So I took this project as an opportunity to be more methodical. I used only the three basic colors: magenta, cyan and yellow, and to be true just because I already owned them and they are student's quality so not expensive ones.

EXERCISE 1

So for the first exercise I proceed in a bit diffenret way than the one descripted by Ana: I prepared 5 variation for each color, from very watery to very saturated, and painted in grids that I drawn before instead of painting blocks... and for many of them I proceed by adding more and more of a different color for each row, trying to obtain smooth variations.

I have to say I didn't know that with just those three colors I could produce so many others and so beautiful ones! Well, I knew in theory and this is the reason why I decided to do it... But making it happen is just mesmerizing!

So here is my version of exercise 1:

EXERCISE 2

The gradients for me weren't easy as I thought. because I wanted to achieve a uniform result without brushstrokes but it almost never happened.

Then, from the paper I coloured, I cut pieces for my 100 day project; for this part I made some geometrical collages:

EXERCISE 3

Hi everyone!!!

This are my exercises about pulse. I didn't know how to combine this with my 100 days project, so this is quite random...

After that, I decided to combine the precision exercises with some more gradient ones:

and as you can see I cannot make good gradients.

I managed to make properly only this one, and I was just lucky because then I never could do it again :( :

In all of the others you can see the stripes.

MONOCHROME ACTIVITY

For the monochrome activity, as a drawing I used some Florentine churches tiles motives:

This is the one to which I added the more details:

JELLYFISH ACTIVITY

In order to keep my 100 days project theme 'Geometries in Watercolors', for this activity I draw cones as bodies of the jellyfishes:

...and as a result they look more like spaceships XD

GALAXY ACTIVITY

Well, this part is actually the one I had must fun! I just let the colors mix and enjoyed the result!

For this one I followed the procedure explained by Ana, and as she said, before adding the white details I was a bit skeptical... But now I think it looks nice!

For the next one, instead, I damped a lot the surface and then put the colors:

On the last one I didn't add any geometrical drawing yet, but I scanned both of these galaxies and played around with photoshop a bit!

Here is what I made:

On this one I overlapped the galaxy with an old pencil self portrait

In this one I overlapped the other galaxy to the portrait and also changed the tonality:

On this one I overlapped with some brush lettering:

Thank you, Ana, for this class! Ready to begin the next one! ;)
