sweet like honey

On thinking through this project, I wanted to do a print instead of packaging. I have always loved the verse, Proverbs 16:24 and thought it would be fun to work through on this project as there are so many elements to work with.

I started brainstorming with words from the verse.

Then created a few mood boards including vintage labels, honey, bees and honeycomb.

From there I started some thumbnails.

Then I decided on the design I liked and starting working through it a little more.

I decided to draw/trace the honeycomb to give it more character, as opposed to buying the honeycomb pattern for the background. It was intense.

Once I had the honeycomb drawn, I wanted to change up how I add color on this project and created a watercolor pattern.

That's where I'm at right now. I'm already loving where it's headed but it's already quite the undertaking. I'm hoping the hard work pays off.

I then started inking the letters and other elements but felt a huge disconnect with the background.

So, I tried my hand at painting it.

Thank goodness for photoshop because I was able to combine all the different layers into one piece as opposed to having to paint it all at once.

So, what do you think? How did my first watercolor lettering project turn out?
