muse(um)

I'm choosing a place as my muse - the National Museum of Scotland. I've been visiting since I was 5 years old and it inspired me to purse a career in museums. I was even lucky enough to work there for some years. Through my video I want to share what an exciting and inspiring place it is. A true muse. A muse(um)!

Update 14/03: I actually cheated a bit and recorded most of my footage while I was in Edinburgh last month, as it was my only chance. Started sorting through my 200+ film clips tonight!

Update 16/03: Here's a litte sneak peek of the awesomeness that is the National Museum of Scotland!

Just a little sneak peek of the awesomeness that is the National Museum of Scotland!

Lesson 2 Homework

Key Themes: the world under one roof; interactive visits; a love affair since childhood

Plan of Action: Since last month was my only opportunity to shoot, I had to go ahead without the benefit of Kat's upcoming tips, so just shot absolutely everything I could think of that I might possibly want to include. I probably spent about 2-3 hours filming and ended up with over an hour of footage. My plan now is to sketch out a storyboard, select the film clips that go with the storyboard scenes, then record myself talking about the museum. Once I've done that I'll be ready for editing (I hope).

Update 17/03: My storyboard is in place, I've managed to whittle down my 200+ recorded clips and made use of the sunshine today to film the last few clips in good light. Ready to edit!

Update 17/03: First draft is over 10 minutes long, so still have my work cut out for me. Need to cut it down now, insert transitions, and add the music. Slight panic as we go on holiday at the weekend so need to get it finished by Friday, but the husband is giving me a crash course in iMovie editing tonight!

Here's another of my favourite images from the museum. It's not going in the video, as it was from a special event, but how can you not love a museum that has an animatronic dinosaur at its opening!?

Update 18/03: So, I've finished my video! I don't mean to be a class swot, I'm just under a little time pressure as our family holiday kicks off this weekend and there are a thousand other things to accomplish before then. The choice was submitting early, or not submitting at all. I'm sorry this means I might have missed out on some great tips from the remaining lessons, but they'll be useful for the next time. Because there will definitely be a next time. Yes, I've caught the video bug!

Anyway, here it is, my muse(um): http://youtu.be/HKCr1unrY78

Thak you Kat for inspiring me to do this!! I've had heaps of fun, despite the pressure of compressing it in to half the intended time. Can't wait to make some more videos!

Update 01/04: Thanks for all your lovely comments, both here and on YouTube. I've now incorporated the video in to the FAQ page of my blog, in answer to the question "What's your favourite museums?" :)
