i lie awake.

Well hello, everyone!

I guess this is where I tell you what I am going to do. I am not going to write a novel, because 1. I am no writer and 2. Probably like the most of you, you are taking this class on top of a full time job and having to love your Basset Hound when you get home from work (at least that is my story!)

SO, to keep it short and sweet. My quote is, "Hell Hath No Fury Like  Woman Scorned." I chose this quote mostly because it is 100% true, but also because I can have fun with it and make it a more light hearted than the way it is percieved.

Warm-up Assignment - this was a little difficult for me, because like i said before, I am no writer.

Moodboards and I, on the other hand, work together daily for my career as an AD, so this came much more naturally.

Out of my phrase, I decided to use the word 'scorned'. So far I have ROUGHLY covered Script and Fancy Serif. I will keep posting progress shots and then eventually 8 together cleaned up! This has been a great excercise thus far, esp. because it is teaching me patience. Which I sometimes forget to practice :)

I have finally finished the excercise and all of the different types of design that were asked. I really wanted to focus on taking my time and not rushing this, because I have the tendency to do that with my jobs, and with lettering that is DEFINITELY not the case. This was a great way to explore different type faces and really made me consider what I want for my final product! I think my favorite ended up being the dimensional (top right) in the long run.

SHOCKER! I knew this would happen. I. Changed. My. Quote. But that is okay! Because oddly they both have to do with hell? Either way, the new quote is, "I lie awake at night wondering what fresh hell tomorrow will bring." Commong.. who doesn't love Liz Lemon? Anyways, here are my sketches. I am torn between a few, but I think my favorite has FRESH HELL looking like FRESH MEAT signs.

My main objective of this class was to explore new hand lettering. With that being said, I decided to go with the layout that pushed me the most. I know how to make things pretty. I know how to lay out fonts in illustrator and trace. I can do those things. I wanted the real experience.  So I pushed my copy/layout/illustration as much as I could and far as I could and overall, I am pretty happy! Still need to clean it up a little more, but here is where I am at now!

Wow. Where did the time go? After getting some feedback from Mary Kate about my rough sketches, I decided to go back to the drawing board. That just took me awhile. I went several rounds and just wasn't happy with how it was turning out. I finally got to a point that am happy to share! Now I just need to clean it up and add fine detail. Let me know what you guys think!

Happy (late) Thanksgiving all! I am getting back to cleaning up my work after a week off in Vegas and eating anything that was in arms reach. I am pretty happy with where the quote is at! However,  I can't wait to take MK's finalizing class. I know my way around AI, but it will be great to see her process with color and everything. Anyways, any feedback will be greatly appreciated before our "final" is due.
