country clothing catalogue watercolour shoes

country clothing catalogue watercolour shoes - student project

Onto the shoes. I took a 'country clothing' catalogue as a reference, the sort of catalogue that only features cosy slippers, flat shoes, and boots for stomping around in the rain, or for grooming horses or something.

The boot is patent leather. I used a grey; a darker mix probably would have worked better. Still, it looks like a confident boot.

The catalogue didn't actually have any sparkly shoes (far too outrageous); so I added the sequinned texture to a flat shoe with a bow. Very cottagecore!

These again, are very sensible shoes, in suede. I was a little too over ambitious in attempting one with golden links on the instep.

The catalogue images didn't have shadows under the shoes; I think they must have cut those for the layout, so the shoes float on the page like shiny covetable objects.

Probably the water colour shoes, though, would felt more grounded with shadows. My pencil work looks very sketchy.

It's fun doing a series of objects, as a beginner project.
