cold email to an artist I admire

*please excuse any improper paragraph/spacing formating; I haven't mastered this uploading thing yet.

Version 1 (sorry, this is a cold email; I don't know anyone in her circle)

email subject line: Mickalene, can I borrow you? (tried to use a subject line strange enough that it gets opened)

Hello Mickalene,

Thank you for making it easy for me to contact you. Most professional Artists of your caliber keep their contact information confidential.

I am an Artist based in Arkansas & have been following your work for a year now. I admire how you embed female heroism within the beautiful, yet complex patterns of your work. My favorite piece is "Baby, I'm Ready Now (Dyptich)".

I appreciated your Artsy's In the Studio feature; it was unexpectedly insightful and helpful to my pursuit of a professional art career.

I'm contacting you because I want to understand behind-the-scenes operations of a professional artist - at a surface level (I understand some of your expertise may be confidential). I know your time is selective, so I'm asking if I may share 30 minutes with you? I will be in NYC Aug 13 - Sep 17 and if your schedule allows, how would you prefer I contact you to schedule a meeting?

With humility & gratitude,

Chrystal

Version 2 (more specific in last two paragraphs)

Hello Mickalene,

Thank you for making it easy for me to contact you. Most professional Artists of your caliber keep their contact information confidential.

I am an Artist based in Arkansas & have been following your work for a year now. I admire how you embed female heroism within the beautiful, yet complex patterns of your work. My favorite piece is "Baby, I'm Ready Now (Dyptich)".

I appreciated your Artsy's In the Studio feature; it was unexpectedly insightful and helped answer questions I've had about proper studio organization.

I'm contacting you because I want to learn more about how to operate & conduct myself as a professional artist.  I understand your time is selective, so I'm asking if I may share 30 mins with you to ask more in depth questions?  I will be in NYC Aug 13 - Sep 17 and if your schedule allows, how would you prefer I contact you to schedule a meeting?

With humility & gratitude,

Chrystal

Version 3 (tried to be a little less formal & give another option to connect with her via skype)

Why am I contacting you?  Well, I have more questions about how to operate and conduct myself as a professional artist.

I understand your time is selective, so I'm asking if I may share 30 mins with you to ask more in depth questions?  If you aren't available in person, perhaps you'll be available for a Skype call? I will be in NYC Aug 13 - Sep 17 and if your schedule allows, how would you prefer I contact you to schedule a meeting?

With humility & gratitude,

Chrystal
