agnes martin - student project

I used this class to better understand the Guggenheim's Agnes Martin exhibit. Seeing how the object-based work evolved over time was fascinating, particularly as it reflected her context--from being surrounded by contemporaries in NY to years in the New Mexico landscape. In particular, it was helpful to know that her intention was to create work that wasn't representational, but should prompt a human response. With that lens and information, it was easy to see how pieces like "Fiesta" and "Loving Love" evoke a sense of abstract emotion, much like we experience when we spend time in nature.
