Having never designed a pattern before, and having not much confidence in my drawing skills, I'm slightly apprehensive about how this might turn out! But I'm using the 2-week challenge to, well, challenge myself and try something new!

After 10 years of city dwelling we've just moved to the Yorkshire (UK) countryside and it is so alive in the summer - just looking out of my window and the inspiration is overwhelming. Hoping I can capture some of that beautiful busy-ness in my pattern.

Time for some doodling and digitizing! Here are some of my doodles.

It was interesting to find somethings went together better than others - I sort of assumed that if I drew them they'd automatically "fit" together - which was a bit of a silly assumption!!

Here are what I think are the final selection, digitized and ready for some pattern play! I guess the fun part will be to see if there's enough variety of shapes here to make an engaging pattern that fits with my moodboard key words - scattered, wild, tall grass - we'll see...!

The final pattern - hurray!!! I'm really pleased with how this turned out. I could probably spend a lot longer playing around with colours but for the time being I'm happy with this as my first attempt at a pattern - and I think I succeeded in exploring some of the ideas I laid out in my moodboard.

Still lots to figure out with some of the technicalities, like getting the swatch in to Photoshop for making mockups, and I definitely had some issues with scaling the pattern as an object fill... but can't wait to explore the collection possibilities and colour way options as I made some happy discoveries on the way to building this pattern!
