Yorkshire Coast

I live in a lovely area of Yorkshire, England, surrounded by green countryside that's inspired quite a bit of my work.

However, for holidays, I love to get to the coast and there's a wonderful stretch of Yorkshire coast that takes in a number of pretty villages clustering down steep hillsides towards the sea. Across the top, the Cleveland Way walk stretches for miles, with beautiful wild flowers, amazing views, big skies and friendly sheep!

For the next stage, I worked up some sketches / motifs. I normally draw on paper, scan & live trace, or sometime use a wacom to draw on. Inkpad's a new one for me!  I didn't have an ipad pen, so have put one of those on order, and in the meantime, am sharing photos of the original sketches.

Now I'm just waiting for the postman to arrive!

So... the postman arrived and I enjoyed playing with Inkpad. I'm still a little clunky at it, so used the Wacom to redraw the elements, and will explore the inkpad some more soon.

I've pulled out a number of the elements to create a collection of patterns, but for now - here's the main one.

It's called 'Robin Hood's Bay', named after a very pretty little coastal village in East Yorkshire. I found myself drawn to quite a bright & bold colour palette for this one, but am planning some subtle coordinates too.

Here's the first (a blender print), 'Stacked Houses':

Thanks so much for this course Elizabeth, I've learned a lot and really loved your comment about pouring love & joy into the patterns. I hope that comes across in this!
