World Food Flavors

World Food Flavors - student project

I tried to have some with the hand drawing exercise. And i needed to vent. Originally I was going to try and use vine to show the progression but that didn't end up too well. Oops, hope you enjoy though.

Also, I scored a 50% on the abstract art quiz...

As for the rest assignment, my idea is to create an interactive world food flavors map using mapbox.

Why am I making this map? For fun? A client? A gift? To showcase my favorite places? Etc.

For fun and hopefully learn how to use MapBox. Also to know what type of ingredients I should use If i wanted my omelette to have a thai style.

Why am I the expert to create this map?

Hmm, I’m not necessarily an expert but I do love food and the idea of sharing flavors from around the world excites me. I’ve travelled a fair bit and some of my most rich experiences have been because of food.

Who is my target audience?

Foodies, travellers, amateur cooks, or anyone curious.

Do I want my final project to be printed or digital? How is going to be used/held? What other constraints do I need to keep in mind moving forward? (Note type can be smaller on printed maps than when viewed on web)

Digital

What level of detail do I need to include? (Names, addresses, contact info, street names, website, hours, descriptions, color coding, etc.)

Not too much, i'd like to keep the details to a minimum so people don't get overwhelmed by the amount of information which I'm sure is out there. 3 or 4 maximum ingredients to create a specific flavor to a region would be ideal. Classifying what constitutes a region might also be difficult.

Dear class, I need your help/expertise/guidance on how to.....

Overall layout/design. As much as I'd love to be a designer, my drawing/designing/layout skills leave much to be desired. Getting MapBox up and running will probably be more difficult than it looks too.
