Wood Burning: The First Fonts

My class teaches an easy-to-learn tutorial about how to choose fonts as a gateway into creative wood burning. I had to learn the hard way by trial and error. I made some totally hideous projects in the beginning! I wish I had someone to give me the basics straight up in the beginning of my learning process so that I could do what I do now, which is create all kinds of fun, creative, and beautiful burned wood projects.


 My favorite thing to make is wood burned earrings! In 30 minutes, students will learn a step-by-step method for choosing fonts for one-of-a-kind, keepsake projects that will delight one’s sense of crafting, in addition to attracting prospective buyers. The steps also include how to help buyers choose a font when making custom wood burned creations. This class is perfect for hobbyist, jewelry designers, serious crafters, and anyone who likes to work with his or her hands. No prior knowledge or experience with wood burning is needed. This class will give ideas and the skill needed to explore more creative forms of wood burning.



My First Burned Font


 Create a wood burned project by following easy instructions that helps to choose a proper sized font for the amount of space on any piece of wood. This assignment will teach how to choose a font that holds the potential for the most success as a new wood burner, how to help prospective buyers choose a font, how to create your wood burned project, and how to finish the project for optimal visual, skilled, and high-end effects.


 Upload your first wood burned creation. A finished creation includes: 

  • Your choice of wooden object to burn. (Examples are wooden plaques, boxes, tags, or any other relatively flat wooden surface) Upload a photo of your choice.
  • Description, name, and photo of the font you chose for your wooden project via photo upload.
  • Photo upload and description of your wood burning preparation.
  • Photo upload of the wooden object before cleanup and finishing.
  • Photo upload of your project upon completion.

Optional description of your project and why you made the choices you made.
