Wonderful Tonight - Wood Type

For my first proper hand-lettering project, I thought I'd try painting on some wood. I chose the words 'You Look Wonderful Tonight' from the song by the brilliant Eric Clapton, which was the first dance at a friends' wedding.

After a lot of incoherent scribblings and doodles, here is the rough final layout and design I came up with:



Some of the posistionings and sizings were a little off, but I decided to use this as my main reference and refine these bits more in pencil on the piece of wood that I was going to paint on:



Here's how the final pencil sketch came out:


On a spare piece of wood, I roughly tested out a few different paints to see how they looked:


And here are the (almost) final shots of the painted letters. I ended up going over the paint 2-3 more times so that it stood out more, but forgot to take photos of that and I've already given it away.


Finally, I got a pretty girl to pose with it for me:
