Abstract Art Elements: Paint in the Style of Miro'

This is a great use of Miró's color scheme! I also like how you used his figures to recreate the feel of his paintings on a small scale while keeping the same sort of impact!

Ruth, Yes, the light blue just draws you in so easily. You have chosen 4 very interesting elements and your color combinations compliment each other very well. For some reason, the image on the bottom right (in your cover photo) intrigues me.  My guess is that Miro' meant it as a representation of the female:  red and black triangle = hips, possibly arms in the air, etc. For some reason, this object reminds me of Kandinsky's painting called Two Green Points from 1935.  This painting has much less of a primary color palette and has more of an art deco (curves, elegance) feel to it.  The two green (and brown) points are in the top middle (slightly right) part of the painting. <img src="https://touchofmodern.insnw.net/products/000/115/862/542a0ea5bd26ca5c7597191ed15dec40_large.jpg?1409274039" class="zoomable rounded-image-wrapper" alt="542a0ea5bd26ca5c7597191ed15dec40_large.j" /> I isolated these little "peas" a couple years ago in a tiny <a href="http://blog.nicolettaarnolfini.com/p/artomat-1.html">painting I made for Artomat</a>.   <img src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0Czd3BFBM_w/UsXLd2CCQZI/AAAAAAAAHIA/UxDHoYXjtJM/s1600/Kandinsky+2+green+circles.JPG" class="zoomable rounded-image-wrapper" alt="Kandinsky+2+green+circles.JPG" /> I think those 2 dots and the proximity of the vertical line are the connecting link mentally for me between the two paintings. Miro' may not have been influenced by Kandinsky at all, but it's nice to think that some things are connected. More importantly, painting these Miro' elements requires creativity from us and sparks our imaginations. Thanks so much for sharing your project with us.

Hi Nicole! I thought the same about the figure you mentioned and the other one next to it. Perhaps Miro used the triangle as a feminine representation. I guess the tiny one-eyed figure is looking up to the sky or to that red dot (that seems to me is the Sun "rising" from the East of the painting). It is like she is welcoming and celebrating whatever the rising sun brings. Some eyes are looking up, others directly to the spectator. The wings or arms of these figures look like they carefree, light and free.
Looking at the Kandinsky "Two Green Dots" makes me think that these two painters like the "earthiness" of that moss green and elements that "look" at you.  Both paintings have a feminine feeling to them. Those two green dots look like eyes and in the Miró's painting there are even more eyes, they are focal or anchor points. Even your little peas look like they are watching us!


This painting was painted by Mir&oacute; in 1946. It is called "Women and Birds at Sunrise". I chose this painting for its simplicity and the combination of lines and geometric figures. I love the primary colors and the light blue background.
