Sketching and pre-vis photoshop

I did a couple rounds of sketching over my original vellum sketch. I tried to start thinking about shading. It became clear that I needed to get to photoshop to see how the look will eventually pan out so I could start balancing the design well. I still think there is a ways to go on the type, but I am starting to like parts of it breaking apart. I through down a few different color strategies. Feedback welcome!

I want to think about it and then get into illustrator and see how I can move towards this idea in Ai. Looking into some vector texturing ideas too.

A) Blue shirt, dark blue and white color

B) Gray shirt, dark gray and white color

C) Gray shirt, white only (inverted color on the helmet??)

More Sketching

I was trying to fit on a super tight deadline. I loved the ideas of making this a very hand-drawn feel in illustrator since I don't have a bunch of experience. I tried to jump into illustrator really soon after my first sketches and nothing really awesome came out. The due date for the competition came and passed, but I am still inspired to make a sweet shirt. I decided to back up to spend more time on the sketching phase. This is my first sketch of the composition I like best. I am looking forward to making the letterforms work better together as well as explore the details and the shading technique I will take for the helmet. I want the helmet to have some of the same "worn" stylings as the text will have.

Sketching and Ideating

This process is definitely a bit abbreviated since this contest has a due date coming up...I think I will do my best by the Tuesday due date and then maybe keep going with some inspiration and time.  I got to sketching a few and I'm uploading a couple. One of my favorite parts of the pre-vis art is this helmet. The way a helmet detaches from the rest of a suit might play nicely with the themes of the movie. I also played with some type. I like the idea of the type falling and spreading apart as it goes. I might play with that same idea with the space helmet in photoshop or illustrator as some more sketching. Some of these might work well with some stars or galaxy stuff.

Research & Idea

Hi I am Zack!

I recently backed a kickstarter for Zach Braff's new movie entitled "Wish I Was Here". They have a contest to make a t-shirt in a few days and I thought it might be a perfect excuse to take this skillshare. I love boldness of so many of the johnny cupcakes designs and Chris seems awesome. I am inspired by a bunch of different illustration techniques, so who knows where I am about to go. I love the theme of magical fantasies, but grounded in this real world that almost makes it depressing.
