Winter Teatime

My 3 words are: Winter, Minimal, White

First I made a batch of Wedding Cookies - my family eats them every year for Christmas but I wanted to put them in a more spare, wintery setting since they look like they are dusted in snow. This is where I learned my first lesson: making photo-worthy food is hard. My cookies were all different shapes and were slightly over-cooked. <sigh> The good news is I get to eat all of the cookies now that I'm done photographing them.

Props were easy for my minimal theme. My collection of Wedgwood dishes (both Drabware and Traditional White) are clean-lined and simple. I love them. The biggest challenge here was composition. I had a hard time deciding where the horizon line should fall and how the various pieces should overlap.

I am a graphic designer so I tend to see the world in shapes and lines. This photo makes me happy because of all of the circles. And because I got to eat half a cookie mid-shoot.

Thanks Marie for a very insightful class. I learned so much about how to determine what the story is and then how to best capture it. I'm looking forward to practicing what I learned. Happy teatimes everyone!
