Winter Animals

Winter Animals - student project

For this pattern, I decided to do silhouettes of winter animals, with some plants, acorns, and pine cones.

I wanted to watercolor the end product, so I started off my sketching on 11 x 15 watercolor paper. This was not the best idea - once I started cutting, I realized my squares were way too big for what I wanted to do. I went back and redid my shapes on printer paper.

This was my vertical cut:

Then the horizontal cut

And finally, reordered.

I transferred it using tracing paper to watercolor paper, repeating the pattern. I realized I had a LOT of white space, so I filled it in with some plants, and animal repeats, and added another big deer in the center of the paper (since it was SUPER empty.

Last, I did a repeat of this repeat, which didn't quite line up like i'd like:

This was definitely a learning process. I've never tried patterns before, so it was really cool learning how to do it this way, and seeing how the images line up. I'm definitely going to try this again. Thanks for the class, Julia!
