Winnipeg in the Summer: Toile de Jouy

Hi! My name is Alex, and I'm an artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Most of what I do is digital but I do love working with pens and a sketchbook.

This is my first-ever Toile pattern!! Winnipeg in the summertime is mostly marvelling at leaves on trees, being mad at road construction, and feeling guilty for hating being sweaty and fantasizing about winter.  Other motif ideas included Slurpees, mosquitoes, and being attacked by a goose. (Maybe I should just make another one). Drawn while walking around town and waiting in line at the Fringe festival, so I don't have my inspo photos.6a8dc0f2

This is the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Provencher Bridge at The Forks, where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet. Iconic Winnipeg scenery. I have to say, one thing I adore about Winnipeg that we have a lot of green space in the city.

The Leg (pronounced "ledge" from "legislature") is another iconic Winnipeg landmark--the figure on the top is the Golden Boy. He has a good booty.

Other motifs include a construction worker, a "road closed" sign, some trees, and a garbage bin. I feel like it speaks for itself.

I love this city with all of my heart, but I love making fun of it more.
