White Oleander

I'm chosing the book "White Oleander" by Janet Fitch. It's one of those books that you reread multiple times and it never gets old. It's a story about a girl's relationship with her mother and her journey through foster care after her mom goes to prison. Everytime I read this book I learn something new so I think it would be perfect to explore it visually.

I began by making a list of all that I could remember. One thing that I wanted to focus on

was the symbolism of the wind in the novel as well their blonde flowing Nordic hair that both Astrid and her mother share.

I also wanted to involve the oleander flowers to interwine in the strands of their hair.

I also wanted to explore the symbol of the suitcase, in the literal way; Astrid creates art pieces in different suitcases to represent each foster home as well as the figurative; the journey that Astrid goes through.

I also wanted to go with the idea of the Oleander flowers in a glass of milk. Probably the most expected route.
