Whimsical Floral Pattern

Hi everyone!

I was so excited to take this class. I've been drawing and painting before I could talk and now at age 20, I'm studying Illustration in college and I'm loving it! I just recently started hand lettering this summer and I wanted to get myself into surface pattern design (seeing as how I love to draw!) and I'm SO glad I took this class!

I wanted my pattern to be focused on florals but I also wanted to add a whimsical element to it, so I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and came up with some not your everyday flowers!

Next up, I worked on a mood board that I put together in InDesign..I found some great images on Pinterest (so addictive!!). As you can see, I really wanted to create some organic shapes with these flowers!

After playing around with some colors and placement for an hour or two, I came up with this pattern! Which I fell in love with! I never knew that I was capable of making a pattern that looked like this, so I'm really happy with the results!

This is my final swatch:

And this is my pattern repeated in a 3" x 5" space! I'm thinking I'd like to make this pattern into a notebook cover!

And then I just wanted to see how the pattern looked at a larger scale so I created this layout!

Overall, I'm really happy with this surface pattern design that I created! I'm already planning some new patterns and I can't wait to get started on them!! =)
