We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?

Hello Bryn and fellow students!

I'm new to calligraphy and this class was a really nice introduction. The project gallery is full of inspiring works and made me impatient to try my own.

So, here it is.

01 I chose a quote from Doctor Who, which is a great TV show and also my favourite. It's fun and sad and beautiful and full of inspiring quotes. I chose a fairly simple one, since I'm so new to this:

"We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?"

02 I worked with what I had on hand. Which means cheap layout paper, a few old nibs, newer drawing nibs and three different kinds of ink. (And a crappy phone camera.)

I ended up using a Zebra G nib and pébéo ink. The nib is great, but I think the ink is a bit too fluid. There's still one ink I haven't tried, but I need to find som kind of inkwell first.

I filled a few sheets with shapes and letters, then I tried with text (yes, another quote from Doctor Who, because why not?).

03 Next, I traced my quote on paper. I kept it fairly simple, using Bryn's alphabet as a guide. I traced it in pencil, corrected it a bit in pen, tried it out with ink... and traced it again with a few corrections. And again. And again.

Here are the second and last versions, with quite a few in-between.

04 Finally, the quote itself. As I said, I kept close to Bryn's alphabet. I'll try experimenting when I feel more confident with my pen.

I had a lot of fun with this project. I love the difference between my first "Welcome to calligraphy!" attempts and my final quote. It still needs work, but it's a good start, isn't it?

Thank you, Bryn, for this class and thank you all for reading!
