Welsh Coast Walk Daydreaming

HAND DRAWN MAPS

This is a map from memeory of whats interesting on the Angelsey coast path and some ideas about an icon key.

Hi Everyone!

I want to map my coast walk in wales! Wales has just last year completed its footpath ALL THE WAY AROUND  the coast of wales. Which is great. I want to walk parts of it and map my journey as both recording whats there and dreaming what could be there... cabins / local food /coffee /tea /pints of beer /camping spots/ best sea view are all important to my journey map.

  • Q; Why am I making this map?
  • A:Im making it to be be a way of recording my ideas and presenting them that might capture other peoples interest but also clarify my ideas to myself!
  • Why am I the expert to create this map?
  • A; im th expert because i'll take my sensibility with me around the coast and choose what interest me
  • Who is my target audience?
  • A: blog readers /futurists/ visitors to wales
  • Do I want my final project to be printed or digital?
  • A: id love it onlne on my blog ( need to start my blog first!) but also im a bit in love with the single sheet fold up map leaflet that could be left in bars and cafes for people to pick up....
  • How is going to be used/held?
  • A; As an area guide and a possibilities guide to the welsh coast path. Maybe I could have  online votes for suggested design improvements to welsh coastal facilities.....
  • What other constraints do I need to keep in mind moving forward? (Note type can be smaller on printed maps than when viewed on web)
  • A:Navigation of map online.. series of detail maps or long scrolling panarama/ will it work on smartphone?
  • What level of detail do I need to include? (Names, addresses, contact info, street names, website, hours, descriptions, color coding, etc.)
  • A; place names / walking time/ food and drink icons/ accomadation icons /transport links/ pub locations /wifi access/
  • Dear class, I need your help/expertise/guidance on how to.....
  • A: best put my ideas onto a blog and get it seen by people who might be interested in alternative mapping and possibility mapping

Week 1 handdrawn  maps

This is a map I drew 2 years ago planning a 2 day walk through Snowdoniain wales with my friend , where we would stay and approximate time it would take from Ruthin to Betws y coed over the top of snowdon to Bethesda. It was in a place familiar to me but that i d always gone in a car so it was a great adventure by foot by bus and hitching. i can remember lots of funny things that happened just looking at it. I made it as a useful tool but I like looking at it to remind me of our walk.Im putting it here as a reminder to myself as its a similar walk with a friend that im planning.....

This map I drew for class , it relates to another skillshare class im doing on manufacturing your own products. This is a map of all the material than im using in my lamps, im really interested in local production and making things from local materials. thats trees a local wood mill/ traveling to anglesey to process the planks into smooth sheets to work with. cutting and assesmbly. Finishing materials and lamp components all shown. I like to make this legible to others by making and inteligible icon key... at the moment i dont think anyone understands but me...

Inspiration map : Ye olde map of Anglesey

When listening to the class lecture where " disruptive maps" was mentioned and after reading about a classmates vancover freelancer map it made me think how insanely great it would be to have this old map as a basis for a wifi hotspot map of anglesey. LOVE the idea of old maps with new information overlaid....
