Thank you Arleesha for a really helpful run down on how you achieve your portraits. I really appreciated the simple class here that went into just the right amount of detail to get going and start playing with our own paints and portraits.

My first attempt looks way more saturated on camera than it is in real life but I wasn’t happy with it in any case as I got the proportions wrong and made her look angry! Which was worsened by being a tad too generous with the pigment on her red, red cheeks. But it’s all an experiment, right?!

I am enjoying learning about colour theory and paint pigments in more detail in general but even so I was so pleasantly surprised at the range of colours I got from my quad of quinacridone rose, Aussie red gold, ultramarine and jadeite genuine (all Daniel Smiths paints).

Thanks again Arleesha, I am going to continue experimenting with your technique as practicing portraiture was at the top of my list for this year and I am loving the direction my work is going thanks to your brilliant class!
