We can't stop, and we wont stop

2013 has really schooled me on the idea of being determined. In the beginning of the summer I briefly saw a music video on MTV with the former Hannah Montana star, Miley Cyrus, singing in a white spandex bodysuit and wearing a large teddy bear strapped to her back. The video was weird but the song was catchy; so catchy that I found myself going online to replay the song again and again. As the summer ran on anywhere I heard the song I would get excited and sing along even sometimes to the dismay of my friends. It took a while for me to really listen to the lyrics and dissect what she was saying. Miley was singing a song of rebellion -- "and we can't stop, and we won't stop". She wasn't the first to use those lyrics, she actually "borrowed them" from KRS-One. The more I thought about the lyrics the more I actually liked the song. It reminded me that you can't build a brand without having determination, being rebellious of the rules set forth for you, and thinking outside the box.

It was around this time last year that I left my job at a tech company to follow my dreams working in the entertainment industry. It was really hard leaving the stable income for a future unknown but I believed in myself and I believed in my dream. It became especially difficult when my family and friends discouraged me from going that route, but once again I realized that pursuing my goals was the only true way I would be happy.

I now can say a year later, I work for an independent record label, have my own music blog,, and continue to look for ways to build my personal brand. The journey has not been easy but I can’t stop and I won't stop because I see so much more for me to accomplish.
