This class was so inspiring! Over a year later, I've kept making maps, including this hand drawn map of Big Sur for a friend's wedding, complete with little sea creature couples!
For this project, I ended up focusing on my recent trip to New York with my boyfriend. I kept handwritten notes of everywhere we went:
When I got home, I made a Google Map showing all of the places we visited, in the order we visited them. From there, I took screen captures of the map and stitched them together. I began tracing the landforms, roads and blocked off parks. I turned the google map black and white so it was easy to focus on the most important features. Then, I listed out everywhere we went, which gave me this:
....BUT, I found this great tutorial on Pugly Pixels and decided it could be a little more fun! I took a lot of photos on our trip and I wanted to featue them in some way. I also wanted to learn how to make gif's, so this was a great opportunity!
Imaginary City Project
I've been really fascinated with transit maps since my thesis collection for my fashion BFA. I ended up screen printing and embroidering these abstracted transit maps. I was going through old journals and discovered that the inspration for my first theory and practice design course was a Crime Map of San Fransisco, of all things.
