I used the ellipse selection tool to draw the watermelon, then subtracted with a rectangle selection tool to draw the slice. Also used a standard brush (with size jitter) to draw the textures (stripes on the watermelon, the seeds and the lighting/ shadows (with the transparent pixels locked).

For the background and quick color changes, I used adjustment layers (hue/ saturation) and clipping masks. Still getting the hang of the Layer mask, which in this case I didn't use. Not a big fan of the pencil tool because of the anti-alias thing.

Having fun exploring Photoshop, as I usually do more vector illustration. Learned new tips and shortcuts. Thanks for the class, Matt! Look forward to doing the next ones!
