Watercolour sweets

Watercolour sweets - student project

Thanks for a great class. I really enjoyed painting the sweets and learnt some new techniques along the way. I had a little difficulty getting the white gel pen to show up properly (maybe I don't have a very good one), so I did some of the highlights using white gouache. Some of them were a little blobby, but I think they were OK. (By the way, sorry for the grey on the scan - I didn't tape the paper down because I was being lazy and it got a bit warped with all the water - oops.)

I love the way Yasmina left white bits in the cookie - really makes it look more organic.

I don't think my icecreams worked quite as well as some of the others. Maybe another coat and some darker shades would have helped. I use watercolours from cakes instead of tubes so sometimes it's a little hard to get darker, more intense colours properly.

And here's the final challenge. I'm not sure exactly how long it took because I didn't press "Go" properly on my timer. It looks good but a bit washed out and I needed to push more colour into the background so that's a bit too plain. The splashes are nice though.
