Watercolour Feathers Try 1!

Watercolour Feathers Try 1! - student project

Hi Casey!

Thank you so much for this class. I'm relatively new to watercolor painting and feel that there's so much to learn, so to be actually able to pull off a painting that resembles feathers is a huge testament to your teaching skills!

I have a pretty limited set of supplies, so was working with those. I loved the colour palette exercise because the paints look so different on paper than in the cakes. Here's my first try but find it a bit off from my preferences - too much yellow and not enough teal/green.

I did use these colours to paint a couple of moons. Need to invest in some gold paint and white gauche though to get some of the beautiful effects you did in your paintings. Love the salt tip! I didn't have sea salt on hand but even with regular table salt I got some neat effects.

Finally, here are my two feathers. I'm so proud of them actually - like I said, I'm quite new to this medium and just learning about how the paints interact and layer is really exciting. The larger one I did first and think it needs more flex (a curvier shape). I actually really like the smaller one. I think they'd both benefit from the white gauche to thin them out a bit as you mentioned.

Thank you!
